Hi thanks for the reply, do you need a special adaptor, also is it true that it only works when plugged in. Finally because of the new rules that all tablets and phones must be switched on while going through us security, do think this would apply to an unopened I pad or would it be safe packing with checked luggage.
    Thanks

The cable that comes with the iPad is a standard lightning connector, the same cable as units purchased in Ireland,it will come with a U.S USB adapter, any USB wall adapter purchased in Ireland should work.I've never heard of the "only works when plugged in" story, but it sounds utterly wrong, there is no reason it would not work here.I purchased an iPad mini in the U.S last year,I took it out of the box,put the box and accessories in main luggage and carried the iPad,occasionally putting it in my hand luggage.I did this for two reasons, one:it's highly likely that the iPad will be damaged in your main luggage during transportation, and two:if the iPad is found in the box with a receipt you will be charged VAT upon arrival in Ireland, just carry it in your hand(out of the box)through the airport.
