Can you exit a Bus Éireann before destination?

Hi, just planning some journeys, but not used to the particulars of Bus Éireann and they don't seem to answer questions on the site. Possibly silly questions, but I just want to know in case I can save myself from overspending.

-Firstly, can you exit the bus before your marked destination, if it's marked as a stop?
-If you exit the bus halfway through the journey, is your ticket invalid for the remaining half of the journey?
-Finally, if the website says there's a change of routes to reach the final destination, can you board the second route at a later time than suggested?

    Any help appreciated.

Speaking generally here, might be wrong:
    1. if the bus stops anyway, its s free country so you can get off if you want. As a courtesy I would let the driver know that you're not coming back, if it is a scheduled 5-10 min stop.
    2. And 3. That might be a very specific type of ticket that would allow this I think. I would assume you cant unless someone else can confirm.

    First of all:

There is no issue with you deciding to leave a bus earlier than where you may have paid to go, if it is a valid bus stop. Bus Éireann fares increase as the journey gets longer, so there is no issue with fare evasion.

However, as per the terms & conditions, no break of journey is permitted, except as outlined below.

    http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=324
Tickets issued by Bus Éireann are not transferable. Break of journey is not permitted except at interchange points for completion of journey by another bus on the same day.

So in other words, if your journey has a change of bus en route, yes you can take a later bus, but it must be on the same day.

Years ago a driver told me he was called upstairs about a serious complaint, garda involved.
What happened was a woman wanted to get off the bus, she did not ring the bell and blew a fuse when the bus did not stop where she wanted, she got off at the next stop, end of story or so you would think. The old bat went to the garda station and put in a complaint for KIDNAPPING, i jest not. Apparently the garda where obliged to follow up a accusation of this level of severity, so they apologetically contacted dublin bus to let them know.
This is the level of madness drivers deal with every day.
If the bus is at a safe stop the driver will let you off no problem, they aint going to make a scene.

Normally with bus Éireann you will only be let off a bus at a stop normally served by that route. So you shouldn't be let off an expressway service at stops normally used by commuter services.

    Yes you can.
No. I've often got off en-route to spend an hour in a town (a pint or two) and got a later bus to continue to destination.
You should be able to. To be sure, ask the driver. He might just put a mark on your ticket.

I know on Irish Rail leaving early can be used as a form of fare evasion.

When I lived in the UK, people would routinely book tickets to distant destinations and get off much earlier as it was cheaper to buy a ticket to say Glasgow from London than to buy a ticket to Carlisle. A ticket to Glasgow could often be got for £10 whereas a ticket to Carlisle could cost £40.

It's allowed on Irish Rail on all booking office tickets but not on advance (online) ones. Although you're not allowed to buy a further ticket to make a shorter journey.

I think the only place this comes into play is that you're not allowed to buy a Dublin-Athy and get off at Kildare just because it's cheaper than Dublin-Kildare. But if you wanted to go to Athy you can break your journey at Kildare. It just reserves them the right to charge an extension fare if you get off early and it costs more.

No you can't and if found on the later bus after validating your ticket on an earlier bus you can be fined. If you get off the bus mid journey you forfeit the remainder of that journey and should be made pay to complete the journey on any later service.

Well, I'm telling you I did. The bus driver left me on no problems.

Well that is a clear breach of the terms and conditions - the drivers shouldn't have let you do that.

I've quoted the relevant section above - you can only break your journey where there is a change of bus at a particular location.

You can't simply decide mid-journey to get off the bus somewhere and then get on a later one.
