    You could rent it out.

If your just wanting money rent it, depending where you are it could get you over a 1000 a year. If you want it to drain money start farming it.

Could be rented to any sort of farmer doesn't have to be tillage.

I'm assuming for tillage? Would 5 acres be worth renting out for someone?

It would of course. Is there potential for a site for a house?

You could divide it up into allotments. might need a bit of work first

would that not be a lot more hassle than it'd be worth? dealing with the public, trying to get money out of them, people looking for favours, borrowing tools, water supply etc. etc. etc.

sounds like a bloody headache if you ask me (I'm aware nobody did but I'm telling ya anyways :P)

I think really the question you'd need to ask yourself first is quite how much work you're willing to put into it? Every waking spare moment? Every Saturday? Couple of days a month, quarter, year?

Oh and also how much money do you have to spend on it to start with (if any)

Get planning , sell up and move on. 5 acres youd squeezee a decent apartment block on it or if designed right around 90 houses, unless rules have changed

Fruit and veg allotments might be a runner. south facing slope will give good growth. 5 acres is 2HA pr 20K sq metres. If you used 100 metres squared/ allotment( 80 for allotment and 20 metres squared for servicing) it would be 200 allotments on the site. Would 100 euro/allotment be a runner. You would have 16K turnover at 80% capacity.

Biggest thing is running it as a business. If you have no tools on site no one can borrow. How often would you need to be there 2 evenings/week and a bit of Saturday during the spring one evening/week rest of year. No need to be tied to it.

On a south facing slope arrange patches up and down about 10MX8M. Water supply for each allotment could be in the form of a IBC that renters supply and place on there own patch a stand or a few pallets to raise it above ground and supply flow. you could have a hydrodare pipe running through the site and you could charge to fill IBC's which tale 1K liters. A service road would be necessary but if you had good take up you me making money at the start of year 3 at the latest.

Quite surprised you would get that much for it! Probably not realistic for this land though, 1 in 10 slope about towards the river and not planted, in a relatively suburban area in kilkenny, wwasn't necessarily going to farm it, would consider fruit or forestry but not being a farmer I wouldn't have any access to grants etc
Is that a drop of 1' in every 10'? That wouldn't be too steep.

Do the whole lot as a wild flower meadow ,put the right flower/grass mix in for the land type, and find some one locally who'll cut and bale it in July/ august . Maybe even get some advice from birdwatch Ireland or the like...
It won't need much doing to it,as long as it's treated the same every year... you won't make much from it , but it'll look great most of the time and be full of wild life...
