Booked online with Irish Rail, but trainset has changed

    Hi, quick query all,

I booked online and reserved a seat for a train to Thurles on Sunday and back. Got an email today from irish rail about trainset being changed. (Probably re-assigning sets for demand on a matchday)

"i wish to advise you that there has been a change to the trainset you are booked to travel on. The seat you have been allocated may not be available to you. we are confident that all our customers will be accommodated".

Train was down as a 4 carriage one when I booked and still is, as is the return one, but the return one now apparently only has 1 space available,

I'm not looking for refunds or anything, even standing doesn't bother me, but am I absolutely guaranteed to get on the 2 trains I've booked?

Thanks. Can I use the ticket I've booked on a later train then?
Problem being that the return train is the 2nd last back to Dub on Sunday night. Could be a bit of trouble if I didn't get on that..

No, not absolutely guaranteed. But if you turn up with a bit of time to spare and have your ticket, I'd say you have a 98% chance of getting on.

I can't see why not. Only ever heard of those without buying tickets in advance being turned away on match days.

OP It is highly unlikely that you won't be able to get on.

Irish Rail are playing with their train set again!!

Seriously though, the train is probably being changed from a 4 car ICR to a Mk4 set which has more capacity , so the issue of not getting on would be reduced if they didn't increase the train size.

I would not worry, just arrive in time.

You will get on the 2 trains if you are there when its boarding.

What is most likely happening is a 6 coach set will operate 2x3 sets and the seating numbers (regions of 54-72) in the first, third, fourth, sixth coaches will be varied/missing to what was displayed online at time of booking.

    Thanks everyone!

We'll be in Heuston 1/2 hr before train down so no trouble there, same with Thurles.

Irish rail on twitter have told me I'm guaranteed to get on train I booked if I'm there on time which I will

I think the Heuston-limerick train has been changed to a bigger set but way back is almost fully booked, but no worries as they've told me in guaranteed if there on time.

Also, I don't care too much about seats, it's only an hour and 10mins journey, I'd be fine with standing tbh. My main concern was just getting on the two trains!

(It's a student ticket so I haven't paid anything extra for reserving seats etc!)

    Email spooked me, that's all!
