Hi all,I am considering switching to from a Lumia 600 to a Moto G because frankly the Lumia is a very very boring phone and the windows apps are crap. The only place in my local town that sells the Moto G are Meteor and I happen to be on Vodafone. Now I know that a lot of phones can be unlocked to your desired network but I have heard reports that once you buy this particular phone it locks to the network(meteor) you bought it on for good. Does anybody know if this is true as I have been with Vodafone for a long long time now and have never had any issues with the network and would rather keep it that way. Thanks.

    No it dosen't...

Meteor were selling Moto G's which locked to the first SIM inserted, which could be your Voda SIM.....

is it a Micro SIM, that's what Moto g requires??

edit....Lumia has a micro SIM, so sorted!!! Don't let anyone insert the Meteor SIM into it, and you should be OK.

However, even if it is locked, there is an easy unlock available on Ebay, from many sellers, for around €2/3...

you just need your IMEI number.

Hi yes I have a micro sim in my Lumia,so what you are saying is that when I buy the phone I will just insert the sim into the Moto G,will the phone not already be Meteor fixed as I am buying it from them?

Yeah, that was how it was originally antway, unless Meteor have changed the ROM on their device, it was set to lock to the first SIM inserted....they may have changed the system but the SIM unlock is only a pittance anyway, as I said above.

You may need to set up the APN settings for Vodafone Mobile Data, I think there is an app for it, can't remember the name, will check later.

If you buy from a Meteor store, they have to put the SIM card in to register it as a purchase (for commision) on the network so if you buy online on the Meteor store, the SIM comes seperate so you can just pop in your Vodafone SIM and it will lock to it instead.

I checked on the meteor store online and they don't have it for sale, strange as its in the shop in town, the only one online to buy is the Moto E.

Hey, that first deal is good, they will deliver to an Irish address free, I just did a test purchase to my home address, was surprised to be offered free home delivery!!!

total cost is £102.50, (Irish VAT).

Its just the 8G, but that's only €130'ish.

The other thing is the long delivery date...???

It's UK Vodafone, do you will need to SIm unlock, but that's very cheap!!

If you need extra storage, its easy to get a small otg dongle for music/movies, etc....

and then there is Google Drive/Dropbox,etc, etc.

It seems a bargain to me.

I purchased three separate Moto G phones from Meteor last month and they all locked to the network of the first SIM that was inserted.
