I signed up for Twitter using no genuine personal information whatsoever in my twitter name or twitter address. I used completely new details to make me completely unidentifiable to anybody at all.

Within no more than three minutes of signing up, I had my first follower - it was a person I know and used to work with. How the **** did that happen? How would they have known it was me, how would they have seen that I'd just joined twitter and how would all of this have happened within three minutes of me signing up?

About the email address I used for joining Twitter:

I used to have a Facebook account until recently. The email address I used for FB was a totally anonymous address I created specifically for Facebook only. I closed my Facebook account a few days before joining Twitter.

Could it still have been because of the email address? How would that work, then? What type of notifications would this person have received to inform them that I'd just joined Twitter?
