So myself partner and 2 kids have been staying in my parents granny flat rent free in cork. We are saving for a house and cannot find anything suitable un our price range after viewing a lot. Theres just nothing in the areas we need to be.
So the situation has changed and we now need to get our own place. But we havent rented before bar when we were teens and both house shared. Will this affect our chances having no reference? We both work so no rent allowance. Also what else will they ask us please? Any help be great as we need to get a move on thanks.

Ahh, you have a reference .. from your current landlords! (Who just happen to be your parents.)

And if someone asks them "Was the rent paid on time" - of course the answer is "yes". Prospective LL'd don't need to know the amount of rent paid.

Don't like outright. Just present the truth in a way that LLs need to hear it.
