hey, anyone play/qualify for this yet?
    Kelloggs Skill Challenge

I played in ours yesterday and scored a measly 60 points.
Didnt get up and down once or land a drive within the markers.

Did it afterwards on my own and got an 85...goddammit!

Did it last year out in carton. Think I scored something like 110 points, but didn't qualify. Scored ok in everything except the bunker challenge, a bit fat 0 in that

I heard this was Grrreat! But you need to have some Snap in your Driver, Crackle those irons, and Pop it nicely out of the bunker.

BlackBush ran it yesterday but didn't bother with it partly in silent protest to this having taken over from the GUI/Irish Independent Most Improved Golfer competition which is still amazingly referenced to in your Golfnet login. That was a real year long competition and was held until two years ago for players in each of the 4 golfing categories with leaderboards published in the paper and something like the top 10 or 12 in each category going forward to a national final in Carton House. It didn't cost clubs anything either as was all managed by the GUI and published in the Independent in their golf section each month.

This on the other hand seems like a very arbitrary means of determining "Ireland’s most skilled amateur golfers" as anyone can hit a few poor shots in the space of 30mins or whatever it takes to run. Are different handicap categories taken into account or how does the scoring work? On the driving for instance, do you have to carry a certain distance and get it between the markers or will a long iron off the tee suffice for accuracy.

it's done by handicap categories yeah.

For the driving, you have to hit driver or 3 wood, it has to travel a min of 150m & land between two markers as far as I remember.

Then it's a 130m approach with tinged circles that have different points.

Then a 50m wedge shot, same idea, more points for closer shot.

    Bunker up & down

    Difficult lie pitch shot

    Up & down chip

    Putting

I think that is everything, May have added one or missed one in there. You get 3 shots at each section

"Any score below 100 will get a frostie reception!" You can not be cereals!

yea, there was a list of clubs last year, i can find nothing either

    No bunker this year just
    1) Driver or 3 wood, > 100M between two posts
    2) 130M approach within 8M
    3) 45M pitch within 6M
    4) up and down from 20M (must be on green to take putt)
    5) 2 putt from 1M, 3M, 5M, 7M

you either get 5 points or nothing.

I had a few the first time around that were a couple of feet outside on the drives and 1 approach and 1 pitch that were inches out.

Dunno was it pressure but my chipping deserted me and I didnt hole any putts to make up for it.

The driving is the hardest I reckon, though a few guys poked out a punchy driver to score all 4 times.
Not sure I see that as a useful skill.
I just hit full 3 wood each time and what will be will be!

As far as I know this year, its up to each club to organise its own competition.

Anybody know which other clubs are holding it this year? I played the one in Grange last year and qualified. Would like to give it another go at qualifying this year.

    What did you shoot?

110 in the final, had an injury which meant I was struggling to hit the longer shots. I don't remember exactly what I shot in the qualifier, I think it was around 125.
