Hi guys I'm thinking of changing my car, a 2007 1.6 petrol mazda 3 saloon. I would like to step up to the next class size.
I do about 15000 km at the moment but that will increase in the next 12 months.
I drove a 1.6 Passat last week, but with a little help from Bazz I left it as it did feel a little under powered. I went to look a 2011 508 then but the dealer had not got the 2.0 liter back from the valet so I have to call back on Saturday to drive it.
I need something with good support in the seat as I do get back pain on any longish journey.

Oh the budget is 12000 after trade in. I seem to be getting offered in and around 4500 for my car.

I was looking to come up at least 3 years so unfortunately that puts BMWs out of my price range.
    Volvo seems a good shout.

Volvo have some of the most comfortable seats around. There is some good value in the S80 too:

I honestly could not recommend a BMW for someone with a bad back. Even in SE the suspension is firm and run flat tyres don't help either.

    That's a lovely looking machine.

    hi,
dont put out 12 k on a second hand car!!!
the mazda is a great car, realistically because you have a bad back you should try the mazda tribute a 2.0 litre suv.
from my experience the tribute is a great car for a person with a bad back.
if you look mazda tribute up on donedeal youll find one for 3950 2005 in kildare allthough it has 140,000 thousand miles on it it will easily go to 250-300,000 miles as thats as far as i drove my last 3 till. he should take your mazda as a trade in and might even pay you for it.

lol, shameless shill if I ever read one.

Well I want a new car, I'm not just changing because I have back trouble. And as far as I'm concerned there is great value to be had in a two/three year old car.

because of your bad back try the hyundai santa fe diesel automatic suv and try the 2009 model. because of your bad back i wouldnt drive a volvo as comfortable as they are they are very low to the ground and you will have trouble getting out of one.
if you do go for a volvo try the xc90 or an automatic as they work wonders or bad backs and comfort

I don't have a bad back per say, it's just on longer journeys or if I'm sitting at a desk for a prolonged period I get bad pains in my back. It's probably just my posture but I can't seem to get rid of it.

OP, you don't need a big thirsty SUV to get a comfortable car.

Ah I know that Bazz. I'm going to test drive that 2011 2.0 litre 508 today and then going to look at a few other things.

Any input on the 508 ?

What bhp is the 2.0 litre? They came in 140bhp and 163bhp. Drove the 163bhp in a Mondeo and it has a nice bit of poke in it. 508 is still a relatively small seller here but they look good value second hand. Try and get the Allure spec as it seems to be best equipped. Active is the basic one.

I went up to look at the 140 bhp but the car had damage on all the panels except the roof. So I drove the allure 163bhp and it was lovely with a great bit of poke in it. He's looking for 15000 all in including my trade. The car was priced at 22500 two weeks ago so seems like a bargain.

    Here's the exact car www.carzone.ie/search/Peugeot/508/ALLURE-2/37213825222135120/advert?channel=CARS

I just moved from a passat (07) to a 132 fluence diesel r libk, did it for 13k with my own which I think was 4k trade in value.

The passat was starting to give trouble and due about a grand in repairs after about the same last year, was just proving to be too expensive to keep. On top of that the 760 Euro road tax on the 07 was a real killer.

The fluence has over four years warranty and aa membership still on it, and cost 200 Euro to tax, so over the next five years I reckon I'm saving at least 5k between tax and maintenance never mind the fact that I have four years of worry free motoring ahead of me.

Yeah, seems like a nice car and definitely the nicest spec and engine to go for, I'd try and squeeze a bit more out of the cost to change price, there is always a bit of room in the price for negotiation. Or if you can find a similar car in another garage try and get a price to compare.

He seemed like there was no more room to negotiate on price but I got him to put in next year's service for free and a tank of diesel.
