Hi i need to buy a new car as my car is now dead :(

Ive a budget of about €3000 but will spend more on the right car I would rather spend less if i could as the money was for a job in the house to be done.

I need a Diesel as do about 700 miles per week.
Needs to be a reliable car so no Renault's or any other cars that don't have good engines.

Any idea's any cars i should stay away from ?

What are peoples thoughts on these cars ?

    Vauxhall /Opel Vectra Astra
    VW Passat /Bora
    Audi A4/ A6
    Toyota Avensis
    Honda Accord
    Skoda Octavia / superb

Any help would be great thanks.

i had a 05 avensis dsl , seat ratchet are a bit of problem but not bad, air conditioning unit is troulesome too but can be by passed using a shorter belt available from toyota dealers for €30, all wheels are easily set for camber etc
i wanted to buy either vw or skoda but outside budget and garage man friend said if steering completely shot in all 3 a toyota can be sorted for few hundred whereas vw type will cost about min 800 bushing suspensions etc, so if doing biog mileage id keep that in mind. btw i think and friends of mine say toyota up to 06-07 were not as good as 03-05 d4d type

I'd sooner have a post 06 avensis, the 5 speed has issues with release bearings, gearbox bearings, flywheels and injectors that the facelifts don't suffer nearly as much.

well i have 08 and had 05 i wish i held onto it and would wait for after June 2011 or 2012 model. friend still has 04 imported avensis 250,000 miles not km on clock with air con disconnected ie shorter belt fitted to skip air con pulley no other problems or havent told me about them and are going to buy imported again.
one local 07 has new engine . one local 08 had flyheel issues. one 09 has replacement tubo . my 08 avensis replacement turbo,at 120,000 km and i have just fitted another turbo at 170,000 km. ive already posted on this matter,.
injectors are another issue that can be blamed on multitude of things ,dirty or washed dsl is no 1 culprit ,it damages seal under injector in all models according to local engine overhaul commercial centre who service my car now and they have 2 older models on same engines 220,000 miles ,260,000 miles not km , drops sump "to clean some screens" every 100,000 miles on both or so he told me anyway. im fed up with toyota and would change to another model but whats better out there/? kia??

my wife decided to test trade in value of car recently.
    a 12 corrolla would cost €13,750,
an avensis would cost around €15750

so when sums were done we figured garage were allowing €4000 for a 08
avensis dsl. id love to know what would be straight selling or trade price to private buyer be especially with full service history + parts receipts

my son was involved in discussion on similar subject with 2 pals and so i got permission to listen in(very kind of them i must say seeing im so old)anyhow friend of theirs are travelling long ways to work and subject of car loans/repairs and warranties was hotly debated. so gist of debate was 500 km /week as opposed to your 700 miles and almost all agreed that a friend should forget about buying secondhand , as repairs were taking lot of spare cash plus days missed off work due to breakdowns on route. instead if regular saver lease purchase or get loan from some dealer/bank eg vw/bank but not vw to purchase lease new car.
in favour is these points, chance to buy good quality reliable brand car not someone else's troubles. car under warranty for 3 years min, at end of 3 yrs period car guaranteed value of €9500 trade back in and lease/purchase another car for further 3 years. upside for 6 yr period car under warranty effectively , lease/purchase payments can be offset against tax( not sure about that),payments of€426/ month with up-front payment of approx €3,000.if getting loan for car get one to cover house job as well in one go,say with Credit union ,use existing savings as collateral to get loan.
against . if in tight financial spot , need to be regular saver to get loan. €3000 up front min payment required to get reasonable payment terms, the higher upfront payment the lesser the re-payments. i hate loans ,as insurance is required in case of illness and i had issues with one loan insurer.a job needs to be permanent and secure and well paid, giving little hope of leaving a rotten employer if not self employed.self-employed may find difficulty in getting paid for work on time to meet repayments .
