Anyone know of a good supplier of ford parts in the Galway area? I have a Ford 4610 that's in dire need of an engine overhaul, so would be looking for a full gasket kit and new rings at the very least. Can get them online but delivery time is a week or two, and it's a sooner-rather-than-later job, so would be great to be able to drop into somewhere and walk out with what I need.

Try WR shaw in portumna, new holland dealer. There was a short block available for these I think it was enginefix.co.uk that had them on ebay

https://www.wrshaw.ie/spare-parts/engine phone number at top of page

Have dealt with enginefix before, if you order today you'll hardly have it by the weekend though.

I see they have an engine re-build kit for reasonable money http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-4000-4600-4610-4630-TRACTOR-ENGINE-REBUILD-KIT-06-1969-ONWARDS-/121218723444?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item1c3932ee74

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Found the short block but it's not cheap, I think they are made in Turkey, don't know of anyone that tried one, http://www.fordtractorspares.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_fts.tpl&product_id=20&category_id=8&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

Might be worth posting in the motor forum too

Yep , was thinking of that - figured I'd try here first to see if anyone had some hands on experience. I shouldn't need to replace the head or block though (I hope!)It only went over the weekend, so I haven't pulled her apart yet, but from the sounds of it (lots of blow-by) I'm reasonably sure that a new set of rings and gasket kit will make all the difference. A new exhaust gasket might mean that I can actually breathe in the cab again too :P

I'll lift the head and drop the sump later for a good look though - might be worth doing the shell bearings if I'm dropping the pistons anyways.

would you be as well to pull the liners....was always told piston rings was only patch-up job??

Depends - if the bore isn't scored then a rub of a honing tool and new oil and gas rings does just fine. By yeah - was thinking of going for the liner/piston/seal kit above and doing the whole lot while I have it apart. Was told by a guy earlier this evening that with fords you have to get the block rebored to take the new sleeve?? Surely it's just a matter of pulling the old sleeve and press fitting a new one? First engine I would have ever worked on where the sleeves and block bore weren't a fixed diameter....:confused:

for the sake of few pound it would be a pity not to do the liners....as for exact ins and outs of fords...youll have to ask someone know better than me

just what we were always told when in FAS...rings are only patch up job....same as doing head-gasket and not replaceing bolts....

    pennywise pound foolish

There's a branch there where he does the boats, I hear the lad in Eyrecourt ain't too happy about it though.
