hi lads/lassy's new to the forum! got a problem with my mam's d4d avensis 02 model, changed the fuel filter and i think iv airlocked it...i changed the filter and taught id primed it enough but it would'nt start found out the primer was airlocked (had to get a pipe and suck on the outlet on the filter to get the fuel flowing)

anyway did all that and she started but it ran like **** when i took it for a spin, cut out in the drive on the way home, we couldn't get any diesel at the injector's!!! so my dad removed the fuel rail and checked there was diesel at the pump all was good, put everything back on, we could get diesel at injectors but we still couldnt get it start

3hours off trying we got nowhere :( so anyone had the same trouble and has any idea's or helpfull tips would be apreciateted

    cheers Alan

You need to tow start it, Carefully, very carefully.

id be reluctant to tow start it tbh lad car weighs nearly 2ton and having no brakes would be to nerve recking

Normally when you replace the filter you connect the pipes back up except the one to the fuel rail. Prime the filter until diesel runs out from this pipe the reconnect to the filter and off you go. The air lock could have worked its way back through the filter in to the tank

It's 1350 kg, anything bigger than a Micra will pull it no bother. You will have vacuum for the brakes as soon as the lead car starts moving, because you're towing it in gear. It's the simplest way of doing it. As soon as the lead car moves, your car is essentially coasting in gear with the engine running, so you'll have servo brakes, power steering, everything.

The alternative is to fit a low pressure pump before the filter, to pressurise the pump and lines, and then crank it until it fires.

The Toyota fuel pumps crap out after a while, they don't lift any fuel from the tank.
    DAMHIK.
Tow start with a long rope if you are worried about running into the back of the tow car.
    Mines an Avensis estate!
