    Hi,
Have external aerial into sky box, from there to amplifier to three TVs around house.

When I turn on rte 1 I can see name of program on, but signal not strong enough to show channel. Same for rte junior. Mux 1 stations all perfect.

Have tried aerial in different positions, and no joy.

Any point in putting aerial direct into amplifier?

    Thanks.

What is the signal strength/quality reading for Mux 2?
Which transmitter are you using for Saorview?
What type of aerial are you using?

Normally the signal for both muxes should be the same, a slight adjustment of the aerial should find the sweet spot for the 2 muxes. Are you using a meter or the receiver's own built in meter?

Mux 1signal strength and quality both near 100%.
Mux 2 has zero quality, but the strength jumps from zero to 50/55%.

    Transmitter is cairn hill.

    Aerial is triax uhf, external.

Using the LG tvs own meter.

    Thanks.

What happens if you bypass the Skybox modulator?

Mux 2 should be coming in the same as Mux 1 with a correctly aligned aerial, no extra amps required.

Did the Mux 2 channels work with this setup previously or is this a new setup?

Following on from byte's post do you use the RF2 out to view the Sky channels around the house i.e. what UHF channel does the Sky box use to send the Sky channels around the house - Cairn Hill Mux2 uses UHF Ch.44 - possible conflict? Does it make any difference if you put the Sky box into standby?

    Could also be tropo interference.

I use the rf out to watch sky. Will try it with sky on standby, and try bypassing it.
    Sky is on channel 21.
Setup for few years, but haven't really looked at saorview in about a year,rte1 used to be perfect.

    Thanks again.

With Sky on UHF 21 and Mux2 on UHF 44 no conflict there.

When Mux 2 was switched on about 8 months ago with RTÉ1 and the other channels there was a lot of posts here similar to yours, viewers unable to receive the moved channels, most of these appeared to be aerial related.

Regarding the amp after the Sky box used to distribute the signal around the house, is there any sort of gain control on it? Is so try turing it down.
Also can you test the RF2 output direct to the TV beside the Sky box without using the amp.

Fed aerial direct to tv. No difference.
    Bypassed skybox. No joy
Tried it just through amp, no difference.

Seems to be better with skybox and amp.

Will have to try alignment of aerial again.
    Seems to Be the issue????

Aerial alignment would appear to be the problem alright.

Do you know what UHF group aerial you have installed, see the last page of this document for an explanation of the different aerial groups.

Think its yellow group b. Maybe incorrect group?

Seems odd mux 1 so strong, and 2 so weak. Will try and tweak alignment tomorrow.

Group B is the correct aerial group for Cairn Hill.

In the last few years new aerials were installed when Saorview was carried on a single mux but when a second mux was launched many may have not been adequately aligned to get the correct levels for 2 frequencies.

It can be a little difficult to align an aerial using the receiver's own meter due to it being remote from the aerial you're working on and maybe the receiver doesn't display a proper BER signal quality reading.

Problem sorted, raised aerial and Mux 2 now coming in strong.
Thanks for all the informed advice, it was much appreciated.
