Water Conditioner - ClearWave HD

    Hi All,
Recently purchased a house which has water conditioner called a "Clearwave HD" - apparently works by send electrical pulses onto the water pipes to prevent/ reverse the build-up of lime-scale etc.

There is an amount of lime-scale on the taps / kettle etc. which would indicate that the device may not be working - although all the lights on the device appear to be working.

My question - does anyone know of a sure fire way to test if the device is working as expected, or perhaps if the water is just not suitable?

    Many thanks

    SH

    Hi,
It doesn't remove the lime, just tries to prevent it coming out of the water as such. So there isn't a chemical test you can use to check whether it is working or not. It doesn't (it can't) actually remove the lime from the water.

Kettle and taps may show limescale, but the hope is that the immersion element/dishwasher element/washing machine element might last a bit longer, and that the shower head won't clog up so quickly.

They do work, but as you can see from my signature, I suffer from a product called Hard Water too.

    Hope that helps,
    Hardwater in Knockcroghery.
The CER wants your submissions on cer.ie/document-detail/CER-Water-Charges-Plan-Consultation/979
They already have different tariffs for the two products that Irish Water will sell i.e. "Not-for-human-consumption-water" and "Water".
We say that "Hard Water" is a substantially different product, and thus should attract a different tariff.

Please mail waterchargesplan at cer.ie with your polite and to-the-point submissions (NB all submissions will be published unless marked otherwise!)

Consider the extra costs you incur with "Hard Water" over "Water", or "Hard Not-for-human-consumption-water" over "Not-for-human-consumption-water". It is clear that the Hard Water products is substantially less valuable to the consumer than the alternative.

It sounds like one of those 'snake oil' contraptions tbh.

@hardwater - understand that it doesn't remove it - a bad choice of phrase on my part

@NIMAN - not entirely convinced myself - however the reviews from Amazon are all reasonably positive.
If you have anything that actually can prove that they are "snake oil" please share

    thanks in advance

I have done a lot of research into water softening systems as I live in a very hard water area, and everything I have read leads me to believe these things won't work.

Care to share the material? I done some research online, and have not found anything conclusive - in either direction.

I don't have material, just a LOT of reading, conversing with people who know about water softening, plumbers etc.
