You can use the ESP alright but it's actually a bit over-specced for your car. The other stuff would be a bit cheaper.

You need a oil meeting Ford spec.

Recommended brands are Mobil and Castrol.

This is cheaper as it is 5 lt(engine needs 4.3 lt I guess):

or this but you will need additional 1lt bottle. Doesn't worth difference IMO :

What are Castrol playing at? The 4L bottles are everywhere and most cars slightly exceed this. I purchased the 5L bottle today but it has German writing (doesn't bother me) as my caddy takes 4.3 litres.

Anyway, I won't be buying Castrol anymore as they're clearly acting the pricks, getting people to buy the more expensive 1L bottle after dishing out for the 4L.

Lots of great oil on the market anyway!

Agreed. I found that 5lt bottle in Atlantic homecare once. It was around 44 Euro.

I have a focus as well and I'll go for mobil 3000 this time. Still find 12500 miles intervals a little bit long for types of oil like magnatec, Mobil 3000 though

You can pick up ford oil pretty reasonable from a main dealer AFAIK.

When I had the 1.6 Focus, the ford dealers were as cheap as anywhere.

Thanks for the replies. Ok, seeing as I've already bought the ESP oil can I go ahead and use it without doing any damage?

    Yes.

I just checked my ford focus for oil and it is empty. It is a 1.8 diesel TDCI. How much engine oil should it take? Should a warning light have come up on the dash? I get it serviced every year but do not usually check for oil and water.

You should have gotten a warning light. Are you checking it correctly? I read that fords have a dry dipstick. So you have to remove and then dip to get a reading.
Enter your reg into whichoil.ie and it will tell you what you need.

This is water. Inspiring speech by David Foster Wallace https://youtu.be/DCbGM4mqEVw?si=GS5uDvegp6Er1EOG

Just because there is no oil showing on the dipstick doesn't mean there is none in the engine. The dipstick doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the sump so there could be up to about 4 litres of oil in the 1.8tdci engine even if none is showing on the dipstick.

You need a 5w30 oil, exact spec depends on whether your car has a DPF or not. No Irish market Focus 1.8TDCI ever had a DPF but some UK cars did.

Does the spec even matter all the much ? If its the correct rating and doesn't have the spec will it cause damage ?
