Hi I've been getting my saorview channels through a splitter from my upc broadband line to my tv, I had them all untill a few days ago when rte 1 hd just disappeared I've tried several re-tunes since and can get the other channels and radio fine but no sign of rte 1, any ideas?

Saorview requires a feed from an aerial - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/step-2-check-aerial/.

What channels were you getting from the UPC connection?

If you haven't got an aerial the cable downlead may be acting as an aerial and picking up a strong Saorview signal but in the case of RTÉ1 HD and RTÉ1+1/RTÉjr on Saorview Mux2 the signal may not be as good as the signal on Saorview Mux1 (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=90758514&postcount=8).

UPC cable carries a number of channels unencrypted, have you found them during the scan, listed here.

I get most of the analogue ones, I knew I was only piggybacking as I'm not subscribed to a tv package just thought it was strange that I had it one day and it was gone the next, so no easy way to get it back without a proper ariel or receiver job?

This post from another thread said that RTÉ1 and RTÉ2 HD are carried unencrypted on cable but I assume you will have to do a DVB-C (digital cable) scan if that option is available on your TV but not all the Saorview channels carried on cable are available this way - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=91110196#post91110196

Regarding Saorview a proper aerial will be required but the TV appears to be Saorview compatible so no extra Saorview receiver required.

The channels you list as receiving above in post#3 are carried on DVB-T (digital terrestrial/aerial/antenna) Saorview, cable digital channels use the DVB-C standard - an option not available on some TVs.
