Is this normal? I havent tagged the calf yet, but the card came in the post today.I thought this wasn't allowed. Calf is playing hide and seek with me. Searched 3 times for him when I wanted to tag him. Gas ! Think he might be going into a neighbours back garden.

Ya thats happens alright , I think its just if you were looking for a movement cert that you wont get it until the result is back first

Spot on, although I'd say your meant to have him tagged before registering ha

    Do you?
I know you must tag & register inside 21 days & denuded inside 14, but do you have to register after you tag, there would be benefits if doing more than 1 & double checked calf/cow to card

Yep, supposed to tag first and then register. I'm sure lots of lads would wait to tag and debud at the same time and register then.

Should the calf be registered before the sample is taken?
This is not necessary. Because the sample is taken at tagging, you will be tagging (which is the beginning of the registration process) and sampling the calf at the same time. However, you should subsequently avoid any delay in registering the calves as results will not be reported back to you until registration is completed.
There was a delay in registering the calf but a sample was submitted for BVD testing. When will the result come back?
ICBF is only able to issue results when the calf has been registered. Therefore, it is essential to register your calves promptly.

Here you go- Register the calf either just before or as soon as possible after tagging & sending sample.

Calf registered as soon as born via phone/agrinet , mightn't be tagged for a week cards would be back long before samples

In opposite scenario heard of lads sent away sample day calf was born but didn't reguster him for a week or so. When registering but down date of birth for date after sample received in lab.
Told massive amount of dodo hit fan

I did that aswell by mistake , just got a letter telling me to get it sorted . I brought the letter into the DVO and she amended it there and then . Not too much hassle

easiest way to avoid that mistake is type off note in laptop, save and print for lab then refer to copy when registering i find otherwise:eek:

Id be scooby dubious about it but I'm not going to tag my snot to find out and I'm just as happy the way they are going
They would seriously want to set up a free post or reduced cost stamp for the sample . It breaks my heart to pay €1.15 postage for one sample . You would think with the amount of samples they are doing a year that they could at least get a good bulk price off An Post for the job

How do you know if you need to order the conventional tags or the sample tags?!

Never test yourself or what you eat. It's a general rule for labs. In this case what if the test came back a false positive.
There'd be lads looking for you to be taken away and shot.

Ha I meant does every calf have to get sampled? I'm not in any schemes, I only ordered my first tags the other day so I not sure to what way it all works.

sure white tag is sampler, need new tagger for that,i presume you ordered it. other tag applied by old tagger. careful with box as sample is taken by needle of white tag, dont let it fall ,mind plastic case for sending off sample as it can fall out of plastic by tags or worse still i nearly threw it away, stick sample in fridge ,put into freezer bag and envelope and send note with it.giving details of herd , mob no etc.

i find using old tagger for old tag handy, means you have both tags ready when handling calf all over in minute, less stress on man and beast. btw have you paid a lab in advance for sample testing
