I would be very grateful if any Board member could answer any or all of the following..............thanking you.

1.In order to be short-listed for a senior management position in an ETB,(principal or deputy principal) does one need to be a post holder in their present teaching position?

2.Is it customary for an ETB to give preference to an ETB employee over a non Etb employee when selecting a candidate for Principal /Deputy Principal?

3.Is age taken into consideration,(all other things being equal),who would get the job?

4.Is it only the Interview Panel that decides the outcome..or are they handed a list of who is wanted/not wanted by a higher power!!

5.Is there any comeback should the candidate be disgruntled with the end result?

    No

Depends on the post and who applies from the school and how well regarded they are. I would say in the majority of cases preference is given to ETB employees, but this is certainly not universal.
3.Is age taken into consideration,(all other things being equal),who would get the job?

No age can have nothing to do with who gets selected.
4.Is it only the Interview Panel that decides the outcome..or are they handed a list of who is wanted/not wanted by a higher power!!

I would say the interview panel have the final say.
5.Is there any comeback should the candidate be disgruntled with the end result?

Technically there is an appeals process. However if you don't get the job take it on the chin and move on. You will not get anywhere making an appeal.

In a previous vec school outside person got principal over current vice principal. Neither had experience as principal. The vice had been in the school 15 years and vice for 2 of that

    No.

2.Is it customary for an ETB to give preference to an ETB employee over a non Etb employee when selecting a candidate for Principal /Deputy Principal?

Not always. I have known a number of cases where 'outsiders' were appointed.

3.Is age taken into consideration,(all other things being equal),who would get the job?

Age, in that it would usually reflect length of service/experience might affect things, but there is no rule saying the older/younger person will get it.

4.Is it only the Interview Panel that decides the outcome..or are they handed a list of who is wanted/not wanted by a higher power!!

It's the interview panel. Outside interference is not welcome.

5.Is there any comeback should the candidate be disgruntled with the end result?

Yes there is an appeals process, which a candidate is free to avail of.

I had a colleague went from standard no post teacher to Principal in a school in another area of the country. Some people do really good interviews and impress the board with their skills.
