Hotel for Dubai holiday

Hi, two of us heading to Dubai towards the end of October for a week and have had a look online for hotels but don't know where to start.

I've been to Dubai before but stayed with friends outside the city so not sure of areas to avoid/go for etc.

Basically budget is roughly 1000e for 7 nights which is probably a little low.

Looking for something nice with a decent pool and a holiday feel (not a business hotel)

Will probably be going to JBR a good bit so would like to be near a decent beach and will probably spend a few evenings in the malls so I guess a metro would be handy.

Not ruling out self-catering apts either if it had a nice holiday feel.

Not sure whether to book now or leave it a while.

    Would really appreciate any advice!

Hi I've booked chelsea towers apartments for October. They have good reviews and there's a metro stop outside. (1 stop from Dubai mall) Have you booked your flights yet? If not I'd recommend doing a flight and hotel package with ebookers. We got direct flights with emirates & 7 nights accommodation for €1700 for both of us. It was about €500 more to book it separately ourselves. I think you might have trouble finding a beach hotel for your budget. Taxis are so cheap it might be a good idea to not stay on the beach front and use taxis for beach days.

Thanks a lot, had a look at that and there are some good deals.

Was looking at the Bonnington but the pool is on a leisure deck which is partly indoors and doesnt get much sun!

    I'll keep looking!

Yep I was looking at that hotel too. It looks fab and has a lively irish bar but the pool kind of covered in and it's location put me off. I'd rather be close to the malls and fountains. Also if you don't mind a stop over on the flight check Turkish airlines and Lufthansa, you could reduce costs by choosing these over the direct emirates flight. Happy hunting!!

Thanks for that, definitely going direct. Went va Amsterdam and a stopover at 5am on the way home was a bit of a pain!

Just wondering if you booked Chelsea Gardens or Chelsea Towers, seriously frazzled by the amount of hotels!

Ya, I'm the same, direct flights are just so much easier. We booked chelsea towers

Never stayed there before but the pro's for me were: nice pool, close to the malls, good reviews, metro outside and a kitchen for some cereal & tea in the morning :) It's not as fancy as other hotels I looked at but the price wasn't as high either.

There are just so many hotels in so many different areas of the city I know it's hard to choose! If you want to give me your dates I'll have a quick look and see if I can recommend anywhere else in your budget.

It looks lovely but I looked it up and it works out at over 1000e for my dates.

I'll send you a PM with the dates, thanks!

We stayed at the Grand Excelsior Hotel, Al Barsha for €70 for a double room, it looks like a cruise ship from the outside and it was fabulous. It has a small rooftop pool which we didn't use but it's there! It's 5 mins walk from the Mall of the Emirates and its very easy to get a taxi from the Metro back to the hotel.

I'm going mid-October and booked the JA Ocean View hotel - seems to get good reviews & priced very reasonably.
