So atm I have DM800 HD PVR Clone.
But as some of ye might know who have this, that the HD channels are all gone. So I am looking into selling this box and then hopefully looking for something in the market.
The XBMC videos I seen impress me a lot but I have not yet found a review on it by a person who bought it, if you have had the box or know about it can you tell me if you like it or not, would you have stayed with the XBMC or move onto some other satelite box.
Now I just want to know is it worth it to go from my dreambox to the XBMC, just so I can get HD channels on it.

I'd be interested to hear a reply on this - lighting fried my Dreambox 800HD and also the satellite dish and modem last week unfortunately...

Put XBMC on your PC or Latop or Tablet and have a play.

Check out the thread 'recommend an android box that runs xbmc'

No, dreambox is a satellite receiver, xbmc is an app.

Is that common? How would one prevent it?

    Thanks

Don't think its common from searching on forums - only way to prevent it is pull out the coax cable before an electrical storm.

I've had a look at XBMC on the laptop looks only ok. I also downloaded a few of the more popular Add Ons like Mash Up. I've around 4MB broadband DL speed but still everything was pretty slow to load and constantly buffering. If I buy one of the preloaded boxes on Ebay should it stream better with the hardware acceleration ...?

I bought the xbmc and to be honest not entirely impressed.
Would suit someone alone but not a family.
Ill be sticking to my dreambox

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't want to see my picture's or boxsets on the tv just the Irish channels and live sport (in SD now). Off to get another dreambox or possibly a VU Solo.

    Thanks for the reply.

    XBMC is free

You are not comparing like with like. A dreambox works on a satellite. XBMC app. is an app.

I understand what you're saying but I'm trying to compare a fully loaded android box with hardware acceleration and premium subscriptions that has XBMC loaded versus buying a new dreambox (already have the sub)....

Then you need to specify the hardware you are comparing with the Dreambox ;)
