I wanted to add to another thread already on boards but the thread was closed.
i painted our wooden bath panel yesterday with some white gloss paint i bought from Aldi Ireland last month, and i got to say its the crappiest results/coverage i have ever got from paint! - ive even used paint with unknown name with better results, alarm bells should have rung when i read on the side it was 'water based' - well i wont be making that mistake again, and thank god you can still get hold of good old fashioned oil based gloss paint still!

Do you not need an undercoat?

i used their DECO undercoat/primer beforehand, again that wasnt very good coverage/viscosity either...

To be fair it would have needed more than one undercoat if it was raw or varnished timber.

Either way i find even good brand water-based finishes to be generally poor with varnish being the exception.

Oil-based is still available so get some decent paint and save yourself the extra effort that cheap paint brings.

ah well at least i found some use for the primer/undercoat today, it seemed to cover up the cement on the wall outside nicely before the top coat goes on
