    As above guys,
just wondering if anybody has done this ?
I'm thinking of buying a Subaru Forester but the '14 model is pretty thin on the ground in NI.
I reckon I'd spend up to a 750 -1000e travelling over and back to the UK so how about spending it on an agent instead.?
    Any thoughts ?

    cheers.

I imported a 2011 Forester for a customer, at the end of 2012. Brought it in from http://www.burrells.org/.

A £24,995 Forester XS NAV Plus (Leather, Reverse Camera etc.) with around 11,000 miles on, ended up as a €43,387 vehicle landed.

Roughly the same as the retail price of the same specification in Ireland. So quite a bit cheaper than I could have bought a brand new one for.

Don't think it's worth importing one, but have a look at the figures yourself before you do anything.

That one was bought without UK VAT, but paid IRL VAT.

I thought vat is only due on cars less than six months old or less than 6000 miles on the clock.?
I'm going to leave it until the new year in any case when hopefully the '14 models start to become available.

VAT generally is only due over 6 months / 6,000 miles, but certain cars are VAT qualifying, and as this was being leased in Ireland, it had to be VAT qualifying - doesn't apply to private sales.

Still worth checking the figures - VAT doesn't make that much difference in the price as it's only marginally more here. It's quite a high rate of VRT.
