So EI have updated their safety video! The old one was fine in my opinion but i guess they needed to update it due to the new PED rules, have the crew being doing a manual demo on the 330's since the new rules came out ?

Manual safety demo on the 330's will only be carried out if the the safety video fails.

The seem to have forgotten to mention leaving all items onboard during an evacuation, something that has impeded evacuations allot recently and something i think is important to make clear to people, just my 2 cents

I can never understand why some airlines make these so long. People tune out so easily, 6 minutes is a long time...

Ya true, it is a bit long winded and they seem to have forgotten certain things and given detail about other stuff which seem slightly unnecessary
Take for example this video, it is entertaining and has regular change of scene which keeps your attention...very smart

The manual demo never said this.

Last two times TL, it was manual demo and that was before the PED rules changed

The A319/320/321 got new safety cards last month, but the prerecorded non English announcements have not been updated.

I pity the frequent fliers on Virgin America even more...

Doubt EI would get Fidelma, Bridget & Dymphna to agree to summit like this....

The video in the OP's post doesn't work. It's locked/private.

That was like going to mass compared with the Virgin America one earlier. EI are so conservative.

They should use a punchier, more up beat voice over.

The British Airways one is actually really nice, has a great branded intro with the BA music.

Can we get stick man back....

The only major difference in the video and with the new safety cards is that they highlight the secondary slide deployment tag.

Yep! When they were paying to get a new one done you would think they would have made something worth while

It's all part of the branding. Getting it wrong impacts on the product perception.

Virgin have been pushing that style of ''Upper Class'' and how's there bottom line again? For say EI to do a VX style video would be getting what Aer Lingus is totally wrong.

In all honesty, Fidelma, Bridget and Dymphna are probably too old to fit in bikinis now, maybe their gran kids :D

Aer Lingus need to go for a slick production, very high quality voice over in a polished Irish accent and a little touch of that kinda blue-green celtic mythical, mystical Ireland vibe to it.

EI should really be trying to go for a very cool, calm, sophisticated, Irish vibe. A lot of the Northern European carriers seem to be able to pull off similar looks.

I don't think EI attempting sexiness or humour would look right at all though. They're kinda 'sensible' and efficient looking and I think that's sort of reassuring.

Not fantastic as I'm not entirely sure it's totally clear what some of the instructions are - like jump down the water fall..., but a lot slicker than the EI one!

In terms of what it needs to do, it's perfectly acceptable and gets the message of safety across well. All these safety videos with singing, dancing, jokes and other gimmicks have worn very thin and blur the message, even if they are effective in getting people to watch I'm not entirely convinced they're effective in getting passengers to understand the importance of what they're watching.

That Icelandair video is gorgeous, it has beautiful scenery and the graphics are excellent but there's a problem in how distracting it is, it's more an advert for Iceland than a video and drawings aren't clear enough or even in the aircraft cabin environment which confuses you even more.

With regard to branding and overall image, the Aer Lingus brand has been on a roller coaster the past 10-15 years and it's taking a long time for it recover. In the 90s it was a very smart green/blue design with the "This is not just an airline..." tagline and the poetry embroidered on the seats was visible throughout from airport signage, lounges, timetables and even the early website, it was simple but consistent and Irish in an understated manner. It was 2002-2009 that the brand suffered the most, the Shamrock was sidelined and the yellow/red big dot image took over to portray Aer Lingus as a new low fares airline, the branding guidelines of the original 90s image were thrown out and airports, advertising and the everyday presentation of the airline to the public was a mess with a mix of the low cost red/yellow image and the original green/blue designs. I remember seeing an A4 piece of paper at Heathrow taped to on the check in desks with the old 80s Shamrock clearly printed out from a Google search to display some information, it had all become so amateur. By 2010 Mueller arrived and for all his faults, branding wasn't one of them an immediately the brand started to improve, the photographic library was updated, guidelines were reestablished and aircraft repainted to remove all traces of the big red dot years.

The new Aer Lingus Business Class website is a glimmer of hope that shows how easily the brand can go from acceptable to very stylish, portraying the airline in the perfect way as a value carrier but with enhanced service options and a focus on care.

In the not too distant a future a brand refresh or maybe even a complete rebrand could be on the cards, now might be the time to shake off the current 20 year old look and go for something new like Swiss, Finnair or Icelandair who have all got their branding spot on! They'd have to keep the green of course!

It's still very handy that you can just walk into the airport and look for the big green plane no matter where you are :)

Most other airlines are very much blue-white.

Personally I think the current livery is still quite fresh. The green top really stands out in a foreign airport. Most airline liveries are white on top.
In my opinion most recent new liveries have just increased the blandness of airlines. (I'm looking at you Finnair and Iberia)

The combination of the green & blue and the shamrock mean that the EI aircraft stand out, and yes, they still do look good on any ramp that you see them on. The time when they went for the big red dot etc stands out as a time to be forgotten, and it's amusing that having experimented with lots of variety, BA have moved back to a clear corporate identity.

IMHO, it would be a retrograde move to lose the clear identity that EI has at the moment.

Slightly off subject, but while browsing EI images, I came across this.

    If only...............................................

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
