This has really started to grind on my nerves now, the missus loves spin FM but I honestly can't stand the channel, it gives the impression that it is produced by a 17 year old doing her leaving cert. Now I appreciate I'm not the target audience but the missus makes Me listen to it so I'm allowed form an opinion.

I like newstalk, a lot, but did vicrim must be the worst show on Irish radio waves. Honestly, stop micro producing a rsido show that talks about your life all the time!

Anyone wanna rage with me on your disliked shows?

Mod feel free to move to AH if relevant

Breakfast Republic on 2fm, it's just awful.

It sounds awful. I feel your pain.

Like starting a thread that only one other person comments on

OP, I agree on both fronts, Dil's Newstalk show is like eavesdropping on the most boring chat ever, and that is just the best description of Spin I have heard.
Another show I can't leave on for more than aa min is Derek Mooney on Radio 1.

    2fm Drivetime with Colm Hayes.

It would be handy if they had a decent drivetime host and I could leave it on instead of having to flick between Spin, Beat and RedFM depending on which one of them has decent reception

    Another vote for Derek Mooney
Any time I'm listening to it I cringe, especially when he is interviewing anybody, it's like he is the expert on the subject.
Also Pat somebody on radio nova during the day, the lads in work have this station on and he comes across like a right dcikhead. Think he used to be on 98fm years ago

    I'm in Spin's 15-34 target demographic though, perhaps you aren't :)

    STATIONS:

Q102 - Same repetitive, bland music, which has been the case for the last couple of years at least. Perfect as Lite FM, great when it started as Q102, and them downhill!

4fm - I can tolerate it a bit more than the above, but really, I can't listen to it all day. Not all "classic hits." Again, great station when it began, but became just like any other station. And, I highlighted some things I'd like to see in the survey they have.

Spin - Not a fan of what is played at all.

FM104 - Similar story to the above. I can't stand the talk show in the evenings, particularly with Adrian and Jeremy.

    SHOWS:

Premier League Live - Although finished for the season, I see absolutely no point in taking over four/five hours of what is supposed to be a music station (bar The Last Word and Sunday morning talk shows). Maybe it's because I'm not a footie fan, but I am enjoying the current Saturday line up (while it lasts)

Any of these call in shows, such as Adrian and Jeremy's show, or Niall Boylan's show. Pretty much the same thing on both stations. I am sure they're decent lads off air, but I don't like the sort of callers that tend to be on.

    . . .

Derek Mooney's show is usually on (in the background) in work. All I tend to hear is laughter or "byyyyyyyyyeeeeeeee." Whatever goes on, it must be cringeworthy going by various posts on it on the forum.

I haven't heard any of the latest 2fm line up, but I hated the breakfast show on FM104 when Colm and Dim Dim did it. I cannot bring myself to listen to the current FM104 breakfast show or Colm Hayes as a result. And, I can imagine the breakfast show on 2fm being an absolute cringefest.

im 30 and it still does not appeal to me. tell me what you like about it so i may understand, im not anti spin, just find it very difficult to listen to!

    Moncrieff
would be my chat show of choice if im being honest!

Who've been gone for 11 months. You may need to re-listen to stations you're judging.

Irish radio. All the same. Boring, bland, banal.

That is why we have iPods, phones and mp3s. So we don't have to listen to some unfunny up his own ass drone on because he loves the sound of his own voice. If I didn't have a face for telly I'd be a shoe in.

    Lyric FM full stop

Joe Duffy and Niall Boylan - radio's equivalents of Jeremy Kyle

    any current affairs talk show

Country Corner on Clare FM - and now, for the 43rd time in two hours, Wagon Wheel

Today FM - The lady on now always insists on saying "I really really like/love that after EVERY SINGLE record"
Today FM - There's a chap on evenings who says "pig of the week" instead of 'pick of the week'. Surely there was elocution classes at radio school?

C'mon my DAB, please charge up (on the usb cable) so I can avail of 8hrs BBCR6/2XM/Pulse/PlanetRock/TeamRock and the other ad free(er) DAB stations

Yes, I am fully aware of that, yes, and I should have worded that differently. I know they're on 98fm morning and evening. I should refer to the talk shows SUCH as the ones they do, and did do on 104. The same sort of callers getting into mostly petty arguments on 98fm, 4fm or FM104.

I do remember Late Night Talk with Tom O'Brannigan those years ago on 98fm. I don't remember there being the same sort of callers always getting into childish arguments and slagging matches. It's certainly one show I always listened to and enjoyed.

Today FM - The lady on now always insists on saying "I really really
like/love that after EVERY SINGLE record"

That must be Kelly Anne Byrne on Today FM on a Saturday night. She does get "unbelievably excited" about certain gigs or something she's going to be doing :) I love her show, and I've tuned into her show on TXFM of late. But, I prefer her Today FM show. She's good at what she does.

Has to be the Derek Mooney show. I used to listen in occasionally because it was so bad that it was good.
A truly awful show. He has no interest in anything he is not obsessed with. It's all Eurovision, Mrs. Brown, tits, Louie Walsh, Titanic, and gay issues. And as for those know-it-alls on the Friday show. Really bad. I dont how it's still on, and I don't know how Brek listens to him.
If it wasn't on straight after Duffy, there would be less than 5 people listening to it.

Actually could have been on 2FM (similar station), (LMcS) that says "really really like/love that" after ALL the songs.

All the tunes are probably from a commercial hot40/warm list, so unlikely you'd be allowed to select a bit of your own vintage Zappa or anything of your own choice anyway, DAB is the future and bit of newstalk for current affairs...

Couldn't or wouldn't listen to Derek Mooney. Can't abide Joe Duffy, I do read the thread though, from time to time here. That is far more entertaining.

    Global village. Makes me shuddar

I object to the total lack of balance and the constant whinging sound coming out of the speakers

Obviously left a lasting impression on his mind. Job done so!
Nothing worse than people judging shows they don't even listen to. Clearly the poster hasn't listened to this show in almost a year yet feels an opinion is worth throwing out for attention. Adrian Kennedy (on 98FM) is a great broadcaster if that's the style of radio you like. If it's not the style you like switch to Newstalk or RTE. Adrian Kennedy has been around a long time and along with Chris Barry and Niall Boylan they are professionals at what they do. The provoke thoughts and debate. Sometimes it's cheap and tacky other times it's really interesting. People compare it to Jeramy Kyle and yet Jeramy Kyle is hugely popular on TV. Oh sorry we should ignore the working classes and their needs on radio and just provide for the wine tasting and talking head talk shows for the middle to upperclass. Also the fact that most of the shows mentioned have high ratings which indicates posters opinions are contradicted by JNLR and mainstream thinking.
As much as you may dislike Joe Duffy style radio, it brings in ratings and has a huge core audience. That's the aim of radio from what I remember. The ones that dislike them listen even more usually.
The poster who said he objected to the lack of balance on Joe Duffy. You're having a laugh! It's one of the most balanced phon- in shows on radio. This attitude pisses me off. If you don't like it, just turn it off. There are so many radio stations in the Dublin and Irish market. It sounds like these stations tie people down and force them to listen!
Can I just say I couldn't imagine listening to more than 5 minutes of Mooney, Moncrief, Duffy and a few others as they bore me but they are great broadcasters and I'd never knock them.
