I am interested in hearing peoples views on this. I will keep this as short as possible. I have just started working on a German technical helpdesk position in West Dublin. It is not what I have done before, the company is chaotic to say the least and the pay is poor. However it is a 23 month contract, the team I am with are excellent team and I am using and working in German which is very important to myself.

However I have been approached by a agency for a German collections position which I have good experience in. I went to the interview which I was successful in. While the position is more convenient for me, has better pay and could be very interesting if it works out I have a few doubts.

    1. The job is only for 6 months initially and I will be working for the job agency.
    2. They are now backtracking on the German part advising that I will be working in English first of all while using my German. They advised me that this was because I am not native.
    3. The agency themselves. I was running late for the interview and rung the lady in the agency themselves. She did not inform the company and it was embarrassing that the interviewer asked me why I was late. When I asked why the agency did not get onto the company advising re my lateness I got no response back. However this week she was all over me like a rash by email, phone & text when I was successful. At first she was nice as pie, however when I said I was not sure of taking the job she became less friendly and more defensive. Also I had another conversation with the company this time by phone. Again I asked the agency lady for a certain time for the company to ring. Again she did not pass this on, leaving me in another embarrassing situation where the company rung me while I was finishing a meeting with work.

The agency are putting pressure on me to sign the contract. I am unsure as I don't trust them and I am honestly unsure what to do. Should I stay or should I go!?...

I would go with gut instincts.

Definitely stay put. Sounds like a very bad atmosphere to be entering. You are getting valuable experience and have better job stability. Stay where you are til something better comes up.

Stay where you are. It may seem less attractive in the short term but actually working in German will place you in a stronger position for the future. The agency people sound so transparently phoney I wouldn't want anything to do with them.

Chaotic companies are GREAT opportunities!!!! I love when I join somewhere and realise it's a mess.

You can start churning out documents showing the solutions to the current chaos, and how it will save the company money. You give it to someone with decision making power. Very quickly you get promoted...
