Hey, haven't been at home for 5 years now (Ukraine), didn't go this summer for obvious safety reasons.

Planning to go next summer, usually takes 8 hours to get from Airport to my city by train and when I get there it's quite hard to get around since it's remote place, so I am considering car rental, so anyway few questions to those who might have rented cars before.

    1) Once you rent a car - are you allowed to drive anywhere in country or would there be limitations to distance/area?

    2) Do they provide you with insurance, tax ?

    3) Is Irish full valid outside of EU?

    4) Would I be better off getting plastic license? (currently holding the old paper one).

    5) In case of accident or minor damage to vehicle - Do you pay full cost for repairs or how does that work?

    6) To anyone who has experience switching from left hand roads to right hand roads - How fast did you get used to it? And any specific things you were looking out for?

    7) If anyone by any chance rented car in Ukraine before: Any companies you can suggest?

    Thanks.

From my experience of renting a car in the US:

    1. Depends on the company I think. There might be a mileage limit (as in you may have to pay more per km if you go over a certain allowance).

    2. Yes.

    3. Yes.

    4. Up to yourself. Plastic license is more durable. Makes no odds to the rental company.

    5. Usually you can pay extra to cover against damage to the vehicle. Dont pay this and you could be liable for the cost of any repairs.

    6. Not long at all. Take your time initially and youll be fine. The US was a bit easier in that I didnt have to worry about things like roundabouts. No idea about the Ukraine.
