    Hi,
thinking of building another system, but last time I looked the AMD FX-9590 5GHz was impractical due to overheating ptoblems.....that was 2013 mind you. Is it still a safer bet to get an Intel 4770k, or is the AMD a cheaper option with similar performance? TIA,John

If I remember right, and I prolly dont, there were no motherboards for the AMD FX-9590 available, is that still the case or are there other reasons?

    Ya sure?

To be sure to be sure? :D

He's right though. Unless you're a hardcore AMD fanboy or don't have the budget for a better cpu there's not really much of a decision to make, Intel all the way and the 4970K is where it's at right now.

Just got one myself to go in a new Asus z97 deluxe with two R9 290's, but not had a chance to get it up and running yet, so can't comment on the performance.

If you want the best, then go for intel. If you're looking at a low budget, then AMD can have some good options, especially if you want to dedicate more money to a graphics card in a gaming system.

I use the fx 8350, most people here haven't mentioned it, What I'd question ae the people who are putting forward the i7 gamers or do they use there computers as in stuff like photo-shop bridge avid premier pro etc.

I use the above programs daily Never had a problem other then ram i need more. I've a good gpu that's more then capable of doing its job.
Honestly if you want to save money but maintain good performance.
If you want bang for buck there is nothing wrong with AMD's FX 8350. Its over looked bye people who probably push them selves to intel.

Also the fx 8350 is now less then a 150 euros ...

if he's looking at the budget end of things then yes, he'll be better serviced by AMD CPU's, but at the higher end of things (around the i7 4770K and AMD 9590) he'll be much better off with an Intel CPU and significantly better off spending the extra tenner on the 4970k if he's looking in that ballpark as it's significantly cooler and faster than either of the above.

the two CPU's mentioned in the OP are well enough matched on performance, but what the AMD achieves with 5Ghz @ 220W TDP, the Intel chip is able to do @3.9Ghz and with only 84W and for slightly less €€€, which has to be a consideration, particularly given that you'll be looking at significantly more heat from the AMD as a result of all that extra juice.

And that seems to be the main difference to me at present. AMD is at a flat out sprint to keep up whilst Intel is just jogging along at a sensible pace, occasionally looking over their shoulder to make sure they stay ahead.
