Pity but not surprised. The rest of the centre could be packed and even at christmas I never saw more than 4 or 5 people wandering around in there. Hopefully they will get a decent replacement for that large unit.

I don't think Iceland ever really took off Ireland compared to the UK. I think the one in Ashbourne also closed. I remember I was looking forward to Iceland opening and I was disappointed with it.

Iceland far too specialised when you consider you could get the same stuff and more in the likes of Aldi and Lidl for as cheap or perhaps even cheaper. They were never going to compete against the one stop shops and especially now also that Euro shops are gone very big like small supermarkets. The first signs were probably there when the UK parent company took over the Irish franchises recently. They had also failed previously in the mid-noughties i believe.

Sad day for the workers. Hope they can find something else soon

Iceland has said they could not get a better deal on the rent so are pulling out,but also said if they can get a another suitable premises somewhere in the Town they would consider opening up again, so all may not be lost.the old Tesco off Mary street car park might be a good spot for them maybe.

I went once and wasn't a fan tbh, found it all to be pretty poor quality stuff. Handy of you are having a party for canapés but that's about it really.

I suppose it was close enough to Christmas and we got a catalogue in the post that made them look good. They did have more frozen food than Lidl/Aldi. It was just nothing to write home about.

Was in the Showgrounds today first time in I guess over a year. Sad to see Iceland are gone. Looks like Crunch is closing too. A euro save shop is also closing.

Is that 2,4,6,8,10? Same owners as Crunch afaik. Crunch were good. Its an awful pity. Hopefully they can relocate or something.

I heard about 2 4 6 8 10 going but didn't realise Crunch also. I was there the other day and it looked bad 3 units outside closed up - Fine Wines gone too. And the units on either side of 2 4 6 8 10 also vacant, so the whole corner where Iceland was. I heard that H&M are going in there but don't know how true it is or maybe negotiations are at an early stage. It would be great for the centre and for Clonmel if they did. And my wardrobe.

I'd bet the mortgage that h&m won't be going in there!

Heard H&M was to open in the empty units that formally housed Iceland & 246810 shop, but deal fell through. Its amazing that the landlords of showgrounds couldn't do a deal with Iceland to keep the shop open. They'd rather up the rent & force them out. Now they are left with whole corner of empty units after you pass Rockin Joes down to Sam McCauley's. The shopping centre is 6 years old. Should be full by now.

It's such poor business from the owners. Simple logic would dictate that you get quality shops in there to increase footfall for the first couple of years and do deals on rent. Then you use the stats regarding footfall to get a possible hike after that. if H&M were interested they should have done whatever they could to get them into the store. That corner in particular is just a disaster considering it's the first thing people see when they walk into the store.

I really don't understand what the management are trying to do there. It has huge potential to be a first class shopping centre in the South East. Only a few years ago they wanted to extend the shopping centre into the old barlo radiator site. Sounds foolish now considering they can't fill the existing building.

    Greed always wins over logic!

It looks bad to have all the empty spaces on the way in to M&S...Shame really.

Definitely needs another large store to fill all that space left vacant. Think Smyths Toys or Next would fit in well there.
