Asus Zenbook UX31E hard drive failure

One that I'm hoping the wiser heads here can help with ---

I bought this laptop on adverts in November ( http://www.adverts.ie/laptops/asus-zenbook-ultrabook-intel-i7-128-ssd-hd-for-sale/4045643 ), paid 600eur for it and then on Christmas eve after about 4-5 weeks of semi-actively using it, it packed in completely. SSD failure. Unfortunate, as it did have a tendency from day 1 to "freeze" when getting close to low battery life we noticed, which was a concern that we should've acted on sooner... anyway, that's life.

The laptop is out of warranty, and Asus are very non-commital about their in-house repair programme, insofar as it could take months to fix and that there are no guarantees/I'd have to send it to UK. It all seems a bit much.

Curious as to what people here think I should do - to be honest I'd be happy to even use a USB3.0 external SSD (I have this one, which seems very fast http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-Porsche-Design-P9223-9000342/dp/B00A3U8AHW)

Is there any great repair place in Dublin that'd be recommended to have a look? Being an ultrabook, it seems like it'll be difficult to find an SSD/HDD that'll fit inside it, so to be honest I'd just be happy to consider any solution that'd get it up and running...

I'm pretty sure any 2.5" hard drive will fit. Had a version of this laptop and put a Samsung 840 ssd into it
