    I'm a 19 year old male and I'm a little shy. I was recently in a situation where I was surrounded by people who I had never being in contact with before. I got talking to some of them but most of them I didn't really talk too much. It is pivotal that I get along and communicate with these people as group cohesion really works in the situation I'm in.

    they come across as nice people but then i keep getting these stupid inhibitions that I would not be accepted among them and this deters me from interacting with them. many of these people didn't even know each other either and got more sociable and open towards each other then I did with them.

    I really want to be close friends with these people and I'm sure they do too. I also apologized to them in case I was coming off as rude or ignorant.

    Do any of you have any tips for me ? I really don't want to be seen as an outcast.

    ok. first of all stop apologising. people don't expect that in this situation.
    i don't understand why it is 'pivotal' that you get along. to me that sounds like too much pressure and making friends should be pressure free.
    relax. laugh. chat. and listen. after that things will be fine.
