You know those body scanners in airports? Yeh seems like its being abused a little bit.

    Cant say Im overly shocked.

Personally Im not opposed to them, I really dont see the issue. I think its one of these cases were its a small sacrifice to make for the greater good.

I mean I'd rather let someone see me naked for 10 seconds and then be able to relax on the plane knowing that everybody else went the through the same procedure and any secret guns/knives hidden on their person will have being spotted.

Just make sure you are able to turn the tinfoil on, otherwise it will be confiscated.

You could probably shape the tinfoil like a pistol..... actually wrap tin foil around a bannana and tuck it into the side of your trousers. Be some laugh walking through the scanner.... well until you get tazed... but I suppose youd get the last laugh when you sue for them for racism against bannana lovers :D

How long is that article?? A bit overkill for a rubbish topic.

And lets all be honest here, they're not realllly seeing anyone "naked" now, are they.

Three things. 1- a friend of mine who travels a lot for work was in the queue for one of these in the states behind some man who refused and asked for a pat down. When he explained to her why she asked for one too (instead of the xray). He was headed to a doctors conference where they would be discussing what new/increased cancers these X-rays would lead to.

2- I was travelling through Chicago (internal flight to New York) and nearly panicked when I saw them as I wasn't sure the response I would get if I refused it. I was 5 mths pregnant at the time and in no way going through it. There is a reason doctors shield pregnant women during even necessary X-rays (ie for broken arms, legs, etc). And this guy was saying they were told to tell pregnant women that it's perfectly safe! Yes, I know most probably turned it down without asking but clearly some were trusting of these govt agents...

And 3- these guts had to stand beside these radiation machines the whole time! Doctors put on lead suits for brief X-rays needed in er situations (ok, I'm getting my info from er and greys anatomy here but I'm sure it's not wrong).

Yes, I know those points weren't really what he was saying (and his main point was "look I can write! Buy my book when it comes out!") but that's what I got from it. My husband would probably get stuck on the "random" searches bit cos it always happens him (when I'm not travelling with anyway).

I'm not a fan of these machines at all but it's worth bearing in mind that all the old backscatter X-ray machines are gone and have been replaced by millimetre wave technology. In many airports, passive millimetre wave is used which doesn't emit anything at all, instead relying on ambient radiation.

I enjoyed the OPs article, nothing surprising in it really but it's good to hear it from the other side.

Sorry for the bad quality, but whenever I think of the TSA, this South Park episode springs to mind.

    I love the TSA!
I hate being in a long line for security, then getting to the front and the people in front of me are surprised they need to be ready, keeping water in their bags etc. They repeatedly tell you to be ready and what's not allowed. There's signs everywhere, yet some idiots still seem shocked when they're asked why they left their laptop and water in their bag.
I love the TSA guys saying "sir, did you not hear me ask you if you took your water and laptop out of your bag? You replied yes. Please take your bag, remove your water and laptop, then come back through".

Obviously there are assholes, just like everywhere else. But think about it. If you left a terrorist through with a bomb or a weapon, you'd never forgive yourself

Stupid Americans. And they are dumb enough to honestly believe they live in the 'land of the free'. Between things like the TSA's insanity, the NSA (illegally) wiretapping everything imaginable, and the approval for millions of dollars worth of military spy drones to be flown over US soil - it's quite clear what they love is a draconian police state.

I'm not saying it's wrong to 'feel safe' in such an environment. But at least be honest about it. It's not the land of the free, it's the land of, 'Do what you are told and hope for the best'.

Personally I dont see how it infringes freedom? I think its a good idea to be honest.

Yeh some people get uppety about this, but honestly I dont think it really effect your 'freedom' so to speak.

You can still go to the shop, still buy guns over the counter, still meet their friends and go to cinema, still buy a house where ever you want, you can still design a product and sell it for millions. I mean the NSA recording and temporarily storing data while they scan it for key terms doesnt exactly stop you going about your everyday life. Well in my opinion anyway.

Really? I never knew about that. However Im still gonna go out on a limb and say these drones arent shooting random americans etc... so again I dont think drones flying over head really infringe your freedom.
