Just got a service done on our 05 Yaris.
On the sheet when I collected it were notes on the clutch master cylinder needing replacement and a rattle from the timing belt whilee idling.
They couldn't give me a price to do the work as it was late on Friday evening, but will ring on Monday.
Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for getting the work done.
    Thanks.

First off, its a timing chain in those engines so I don't know how the belt could rattle.

Secondly, I have never heard of the Clutch master cylinder giving trouble on these but it's not impossible. What are the symptoms?

What mileage is on your car and was it serviced in line with recommendations? If mileage is high and / or it wasn't serviced regularly, the timing CHAIN could be rattling a little.

    Apologies. It was chain.
There is a slight " squeeking" noise when pressing the clutch, but no difficulty in pressing it down.
There's 120,000 miles and serviced regularly once a year.

Without hearing the noise from the chain, it's hard to make a call but I would think it's unlikely that the chain needs attention going by mileage and service history. They all tick just a little but it's nothing that I'd be getting worried about.

The other good news is that most Toyotas have that squeak when you depress the clutch. It seems to come from the pivots on the pedal and where the pedal connects to the master cylinder. You could try getting a bit of WD40 or 3in1 on these, though its hard to access. I often notice the squeak disappears if the clutch is changed even though this should make no difference to that area of the pedal / master cylinder. Either way, I wouldn't be changing the master cylinder to deal with it.

I don't suppose your mechanic was trying to generate a bit of work for himself?

I have the squeek in my avensis clutch for about 40000 miles now and it hasnt done any harm.
