I moved back to Ireland just over a year ago. Since then I've been a named driver on my sister's insurance and using her car some of the time. I'm now buying her car and getting insurance in my own name. If she completes the Vehicle Registration Cert and we both sign it tomorrow and send it off to Shannon, do I become the new owner at the time it's signed or when it's received in Shannon or when the new VRC is sent to me?

Do I need to wait until the VRC comes back before getting the car insured in my name?

The date on the VLC will be the date you become the owner, you can get insured from the moment you sign the documents.

The plan is to post in the signed and dated VRC on Monday, then will take myself into the broker to get the insurance sorted out.
