NCT Query; Boot catches

My car failed the NCT because I needed new front shocks and the boot door would not open.

    I've replaced the shocks.

My boot will open if you use the remote lock on the key. Will this suffice for their purposes or do i need to spend €100 getting a new lock fitted?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

Did you try bringing the spare key and pressing open as they press the boot ? ;)

I think I'm okay; I just have to inform the engineer that in order to open the boot they must use the remote on the key fob. :)

    From the NCT manual

"Check that the bonnet and boot lid catches are operating properly. In the case of front opening bonnets, ensure that the safety
catch is fitted and operating properly"

However some cars were never fitted with a push button on the boot lid itself, and usually only came with an internal release (either cable or electrical operation)
If you meet an extremely 'by the book' tester you may just be failed. But it's definitely worth just staying with the car and showing the tester how you open the boot.
At worst it's only a visual fail, so no cost to yourself (apart from the replacement lock).
