    All,

Looking at getting gates. Had contact with a guy who was doing a good price. Was dead against powdercoating. Said he uses a paint which prevents chipping. Prior to this all I heard was you shoudl poweder coat for sure. He reckons it fades after a couple of years and doesn't prevent chipping.

    Any opinions on this?

    Thanks

He is pretty much right, powder coat can and does fade and it can chip and go nasty, go for a good quality paint finish.

Paint also fades and chips but powder coating would be the better finish.

A mute point unless you are also galvanizing the gates.

A good primer and multiple coats will serve you well. Use BIN primer. 2 coats and 2 top coats.
