Changing Instructors

    Hi All!

I finally got around to learning to drive, I'm in my 30's I should have done it years ago. I have completed 6 of the 12 lessons so far but I have an issue with my driving instructor. She is constantly changing the dates of my lessons, and if she is not changing dates she is changing times.

she doesn't give me much notice when she changes times / dates, its usually the night before. I then have to rearrange other appointments to suit her but at this stage I'm fed up. Would I be able to change to another instructor or will this look bad on my record?. I pay her by the lesson so I wouldn't be out financially

Change instructors. You shouldn't have to put up with someone who is that unprofessional. You don't have any "record" to worry about. Learning to drive is not like applying for a job, where you have to worry about what former employers may say about you.

Your ADI just has to set up an account for you on the RSA website and log your lessons as being done there. Make sure that she has done that before you get rid of her. You can check what she has done for yourself , by going to the RSA website yourself, click on My EDT, and inputting your details.

Once it all looks good there, get rid of her & find someone else.

Thank you, I didn't know any of that!

No problem. If she is a really good teacher, you could always have a chat with her about how frustrating you find all the chopping and changing of lessons & give her a chance to mend her ways. If she doesn't, get rid of her. I'd also consider reporting her to the RSA for unprofessional conduct. She'll probably continue to treat other learners like that, unless someone puts a stop to her gallop.

I get on well with her and I think shes a good teacher, but she is always rearranging the schedule, and Its at the stage where I cant plan around my lesson because of constant changing, she is quite sloppy

Tell her this then and take the advice above. Give her a chance to shape up or ship her out

You could do 12 lessons with 12 different instructors if you wanted to. Not advisible but possible

Why do you think its better to stick with one person? I like the idea of getting as many opinions as I can and practising driving infront of many people.

You hopefully build up a rapoire with your instructor. He or she gets to know you and your driving. That can only benefit you as a learner.
From an ADI point of view it can be tricky taking over a new pupil who has come from another ADI. What I mean is often, the content written into the logbook is sketchy at best. I often see generic comments like, "pupil has completed the outcomes of this lesson".

It tells me nothing about you as a driver.

Also, different instructors have different styles. There's certainly no issue in changing over once even twice but unless there's some serious issues I'd certainly not advise just changing for the sake of it.
