I'm playing there in a few weeks, I would be interested in any views on the course and what other courses is it similar to in length and design ?

Greens will be pole forked on the 24th I'm afraid.

    Somewhat similar to castle.
Accuracy off the tee is vital.

    Don't call it "the" Grange!

Will be perfect then, just before captain's prize, greens are perfect at the moment and we only do mini tines so recovers quickly.
    Just Grange is the name

I just can't put grange into a sentence without having "the" before it.

I'm going to play grange tomorrow.
I'm going to play the grange tomorrow.

Number 2 sounds better but I understand where the greebo is coming from.

Castle Golf Club is the same, They don't like the "The"
got my ear warmed for saying "The" in the bar one evening,
by an elderly member who was jokingly serious.......

Played Grange Golf Club a couple of weeks back, and as ever very well presented and very enjoyable.

Where does the name come from?

I'd say most people call it 'the' because they think the name derives from an object ie a grange, hence the use of the grange. Liverpool obviously wouldnt be called 'the' because it's a place. :)

The whole place is historically called Grange of the March.
And the club is just off Grange road.
The park was renamed Marlay Grange after marriage to a bishops daughter named Marlay.

It's a pity the bishops daughter wasn't named Dee
