Check Engine Light "ON" & Failing Emissions

Hopefully someone could help me out here, basically i am selling my car on and before i sell i want to make sure its 100% for the next owner.

The car failed NCT in Apr 13 due to high emissions i went to a well known garage who told me the CAT Converter was gone, so they fitted a universal one (alot cheaper) car went back to NCT and passed.

After about 2 months the check engine light came on which i have stupidly ignored as the car was running fine in my eyes (sounded and ran fine which was goon enough for me)

On Monday i dropped the car into a garage to be given the once over before i sell and they told me it was failing emissions and needed a new CAT i then explained the CAT was only done over a year ago to which they said well it must be the 2 sensors which he quoted would cost €320 for both to be replaced.

So basically i am looking for advice on what to do.

Details of my car and emissions test are attached

    VW Golf Comfortline MK5 2005
    Petrol
    Auto Transmission
    137,041KM

    CAT Replaced Apr 13
    Serviced Nov 13

If anyone needs more info just let me know

Again any advice on what to do or check would be great.

Hi Jason, I had the same problem with a Peugeot . The garage fitted a generic cat & within 5 months the emissions light came back on. The solution was an oem one, they cost a good bit more but it should last a few years. I had no more problems with the oem cat, the cheaper none oem 02 sensors are also terrible & don't last as I found out the hard way. Don't replace the current sensors unless you are 100% sure they are faulty
