    Hi,

I was wondering if you could offer some general advice, i have decided to take up golf again, after circa 12 years, back and knee injuries (from football)

Anyway, was quite an ok player in my day and indeed played a lot of inter county pitch and putt playing off scratch etc etc

Looking for advice on buying clubs, is McGuirks good value? Also are those ecco shoes really that good?

apologies if these questions were asked before.....i did look though!

    thanks

Did you purposely spell the title like that? ;) It got my attention

Have a look around, Halpenny's are also worth a visit and then there are the online shops.

But if you can get a second hand set in good nick, you'll find the best value and when you get up to speed, you could then look at buying new.

McGuirks are awful both in price and service. I have contacted them several times on their 'price match promise' and never got a response.

golfstoreeurope are cheaper and are somewhere in the North so postage is low and prices are quite a lot lower than McGuirks.

But Adverts.ie and eBay are also great you can pick up some very good deals on new and 2nd hand clubs, I rarely buy anything new anymore unless I have vouchers.

yes a typo, lol. Thanks will check them out, i have a good budget but would like to get decent shoes/clothes too. I am injury free these days so would hope to get out at least 2 times a week during the summer and every 2nd week or so in the not so fair months

    Where are you based?

I find it handy to pop in to McGuirks in Leopardstown and Halpenny in Carrickmines is just a short drive away. So you can check them both out in a very short time-frame.

They both have second-hand stuff; mostly drivers and woods, but they also have bags with older kit in them at knock-down prices. I think Halpenny had R11s fairway woods for around €100 and other new (but old model) kit such as wedges or ex-demo irons.

The best value is in the second hand market, but if your really pushed on new gear wait for the sale from both halpenny and mcguirks, both are quite good.

Not sure about Ecco golf shoes, but I had a pair of good wear ecco's, most comfortable shoe I've ever worn.
