Anybody any thoughts on the movie The Godfather 3??
Wasnt as bad as people say. The end was actually very sad dying in Sicily all alone. Just watched it there.

I've defended this film on several occasions here before. There are niggles about the casting e.g. the absence of Robert Duvall, or Sofia Coppola (who I didn't mind as much as some do). It's a film built around its set pieces, big and small, the bits in-between being a bit forgettable.

I find it helps to remember that it was supposed to be its own thing, "The Death of Michael Corleone", and only became "The Godfather, Part III" because of studio pressure.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

It was a film which didn't stand up to its predeccesors, which would've been extremly hard anyways given they're 2 of the greatest film ever made.
I think the concept of it was badly thought out and the story line was very meh.. and had massive gaps all over the place. there were a few times you could've driven a bus through the gaps in the plot.
It was a clear attempt to capitalise on the first two and make a few more million for all involved which sadly let the series as a whole very badly down.

It's a big let down compared to the other two masterpieces. However it has this great line :)

Fine movie in its own right , just impossible to live up to its predecessors .

Thanks for the reply guys It actually grows on me the more I watch it. Sofia coppoa? Absolute rubbish actor she ****ed up the film with her big beak and creepy lok on her face. The son should have been part of the business also and the story line could have took to the streets more.

Winona Ryder pulled out and left the director in the lurch , still an ill advised decision I agree. Still a fine movie with some grand set piece scenes and an outstanding finish on the steps of the opera house, which seems appropriate seeing how operatic and melodramatic the whole thing is.

Yes I agree a great finish and then the very end sums up how he alienated himself as a cold person/Don by the way he dies alone. The helicopter attack was pretty unrealistic plus the creepy scenes between the cousins is a no no. All in all the poorest of the series but id give it a 6/10.

Sofia Coppola didn’t screw up the film. Her father and the studio did that. They should be blamed, not her. The mean-spirited ridicule which she has been subjected over the years is sickening.

I don’t even entirely blame Coppola. Despite not wanting to make it, he actually had some good ideas for the film. But he was in serious debt at the time which made him reluctant to stand up to the studio, who were going to make the film with or without him. Paramount rushed the script, cut the budget, pissed off Duvall and generally pushed Coppola around so as they could have the film out in time for the Oscars.

Good insight thanks, of course she didnt screw the film I just think she wasnt up to the task of playing michael Corleones daughter. I also saw recently an interview on you tube with robert duvall and why he refused the part. He wasnt getting as much money as everyone else. Fair enough considering james caan got a full wage for appearing in godfathet 2 for one scene.
