    Could you provide more info???

    Google is your pal!

    www.honestjohn.co.uk is another handy one.

The search bar on this site could throw up a lot of info too.

I've had a few of these...
Make sure the crankcase breather filter has been recently changed or if unsure get it changed yourself. (€30 approx plus labour).
Swirl flaps ideally should be removed as their brackets can loosen and break off and be ingested into the engine and cause serious damage.
Outside Door handles can stick open.
Dsc (traction control) light can start intermittently flashing when driving and cutting power, if so need new abs sensors.
All these cars were factory fitted with run flat tyres, each of them should have "RSC" stamped on the side wall of the tyres. Something to keep in mind as these cars have no spare wheel.
    Good luck with the viewing!

Baring the mileage in mind the timing chain may need to be sorted out. I bought a 2005 320i, never thought to check that and yup.... needed to pay out handsomely to have it fixed.

How much does it cost to get sorted..and what needs to get done..

The OP has a thread over on the buying forum too.

I presume this is the car in question:

2008 Mazda 6s going for 7-8k with 50k less kms and zero list of likely issues

i will never understand (after working on many german junkers) why anyone would sacrifice the peice of mind and reliability of a jap car for the supposed status symbol of a BMtroubleyou

if i won one in a raffle id sell it on and by a jap yoke and go on a cruise with whats left

You might want to do some googling on Mazda's 2.0 litre diesel engine then. Plenty of info out there if you look.

Barring the status symbol crop I think the reason most people buy them is because not everyone wants to be driving a boring jap econobox. Some people like driving and BMW's tend to be high on the list of drivers cars.

:pac: Oh dear, you don't have much experience with diesel 6's do you. BMW's reliability and engineering is vastly overrated and nothing at all to write home about IMO, but jeez you could of picked a better example to prove your point than the disastrous diesel 6

Really those 2.0 diesel 6's are terrible yokes.

I picked a 6 as an eg because i have been looking over a few 1.8s over the last few weeks for a family member thats buying one. So no, it wasnt the diesel i was talking about.
I personally would never buy a large diesel. A 1.6 crdi kia or hyundai would be my choice. I have a 1.6 lancer atm. I have had all kinds of jap cars over the last 15 yrs and in that whole time i never put the kind of money in to them collectively that ive seen go into some bmws in one go.

    its a choice i suppose

But the OP is asking about a 320d not a petrol Mazda 6. You can buy lots of cars for €8k but they have feck all relevance in this thread or to what the OP is asking about.

Yeah true I'm not buying a Mazda anyhow...sending aa carcheck out today

Are you the OP under a different user name?

I've owned both a Mazda 6 1.8i & 177 320d. The Mazda is a tin can compared to the BMW.

While i have owned every car out there i have certainly driven every make/type of car that is sold in ireland and i could just never own a bmw. Ive never enjoyed driving them. The cabin very oppressive imo

its a personal choice. I suppose.

I used the 1.8 mazda as an eg of what else he could get that will not end up costing a fortune every yr to maintain. I know a 2.0d is not a 1.8 but none of us bar the op know if he might have been interested anyway.

Thats the thing for some reason i love driving them personal taste really

i had 2 320d's both 2006, turbos went in both and the dsc went in both at almost the exact same mileage. I've got a 520d now ( turbo replaced in this under warranty )
btw - the e90 was voted one of the best handling cars of the last decade, I have to agree - cracking cars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭moonfish

How can you avoid the turbos going
