I like to think that while not being a nerd I know my way around the internet and how to use websites but I still can't master the Irish Rail one. Somebody please tell me the child return fare Enniscorthy/Dublin. Thank you.

PS Why can't I use the website to find the information?

€13 child return for tomorrow, wasn't that hard?

I rang the station in the meantime and got the info but how do you do it online?

After selecting your inward and return trips, scroll down the page to 'choose your ticket' and select child ticket.

No - it just gives me a dirty red x. I'm not a stupid person - well, not that stupid a person - and by my reckoning the site is unusable.

I found this page quickly enough, JD. To be fair, it mentions that it is under testing and to contact them if users see any issues or omissions.

I'm sorry, the lights are on but there's nobody home! Nothing works on that page and Bray isn't even on the Drop-down menu.

What web browser are you using? Do you have any add-ons installed?

    Google Chrome

Below is the page that is displaying tonight - I tried Dublin/Cork and that works, so the problem is at IE's end.

It does state at the bottom of that page:
Child Fares - With the exception of cross border journeys, fares for children of 5 years of age and under 16 years of age are charged up to half the appropriate adult fare up to a maximum fare of €29.50 (excluding weekly/monthly season tickets).

In other words, the child fare is 50% of the adult fare to a maximum of €29.50.

Therefore the day return fare is €13.

As I said, it mentions that it is under beta testing and to contact them if there are issues; perhaps you should contact them with these issues.

If you think it's difficult booking a child, try bookng a bike. Trying for 2 days now to book 2 bikes, dublin - tralee and back. There's a change in mallow but the bike allowance also changes because of the type of train, so can't book 2 together all the way through. Had to ring Customer (dis)service twice, even had IT support ring me. Customer service/sales can't sell me a place for a bike over the phone - why? Embarrasing that this site is even online if it's that counter-intuitive, and i'm saying this as a software developer, not a nerd and not a novice.

What do tourists think when they're trying to use it?!

Its simple. Just go to the fare information section and select the Rosslare line option. You will get a full page with all the fares on that line. You also have the option to search between stations, simply select Enniscorthy and then Connolly and you will get all the fares available between those stations. Look for the adult price and then half it. Not that difficult to be honest.

In reference to the last post in this thread and my opening one. There is nothing simple about Irish Rail's crap website. Today I thought that I'd try again. A visit to Belfast was being contemplated - outward on the 24th August.

Silly old me had quite forgotten about the impending strike but instead of telling me that the website told me that all seats were sold!!! Eventually I gave up and rang Connolly information: Informed that there were no trains due to industrial action. I tried a new date with the man to whom I spoke - out on day x and back on day y. Could he help - hell NO!! What century are Irish Rail living in? It's fecking 2014 not 1814.

A simple enquiry about a 5-day return fare Enniscorthy/Belfast could not be dealt with to my satisfaction. Could the usual apologists for IE respond please. Another gripe - I think that the guy I spoke to did not have English as his first language and this combined with the traditional surly Dublin booking office manner did not help.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Just looking back at the screen shot you posted - it was Enniscorthy - Bray not Dublin as you originally stated, could that have been an issue?

No, that was last attempt to use the website not today's futile effort.

Just noticed that myself, it must have been an angry typo as it was Enniscorthy/Bray that I was after but that would have had no bearing on my search for information.

Like many other organisations Irish Rail have a fetish with modernity (e-voting style) and they can't get it right. I don't care what anybody says, that site is one of the worst out there and is virtually unusable. Then the actual customer experience if you actual get to speak to a human being ......

In fairness Translink/NIR's site is only slightly better. After battling with the site which appeared to not acknowledge the existence of 'The Free State' I rang Belfast. Eventually the man I spoke to referred me to a small box at the top of the page titled Enterprise.....apparently they can't list Dublin on their drop-down fare menu as it's a joint service rather than an NIR one. ffs

Fares seem quite good value when booked online but it still leaves me scratching my head as regards children etc.etc. Wales beckons instead...

I think it may be a case of a bad tradesman always blames his tools rather than the site being unusable.

Does it not occur to you that a website should be easy to use? I'm an ex.railway enthusiast who has some understanding of railways and a lot of experience of computers and the internet and I can't use their site - what chance for somebody with no interest in railways or the internet/computers? How many 'ordinary' members of the public know of the existence of NIR/Translink and their website? How many 'ordinary' people know to go looking for the telephone number of Connolly Information desk if they can't manage the website?

Go on Barry, I can't wait for your next smug reply!

Ok - click on the tab called "Fares and Tickets" at the top, then click on "Fares" from the menu at the side, and finally click on "Dublin-Sligo" from the routes listed.

Then scroll down and there are all the fares listed in a tabular format including monthly/annual fares.

Note that monthly/annual fares are available via www.taxsaver.ie should your employer be prepared to offer them.

The site is grand, its you that doesnt have a clue how to use it. Its all there for you. Do you need big arrows and capital letters to point you in the right direction? There are books available in Easons called An Idiots guide to the Internet etc, maybe IR should get some printed for the web site.
The number you need is 1850366222 for all sales and timetable inquiry.

Patronizing as ever. Okay, I admit I'm the only one not able to use the Irish Rail website. Any chance that you give master classes in how to use ****ed up websites or are you too busy giving classes in how to be pig ignorant?

Cut out the childishness (ie referring to other posters as "Barry" and "pig ignorant", and referring them to An Idiots Guides to anything.

Back on top and do not reply.
