Career Orientated Decisions

Basically I'm a late bloomer, spent most of my 20's not concerned about my future and living a happy carefree life. I've coasted along at a decent pace and picked up a degree along the way through part time study in Finance. I have a job at the moment in Banking basically looking after a small part of a large organisation but I feel I have more potential.

I'm 28 and setting out on the ACCA exams in the next 6 months and have been offered a job as an Accountant, I have two choices, stay in Banking for short term gains or take this job, get full exam support including extra holidays. They are making a huge effort to get me and they promise me full exposure to all the accounting from start to finish. Including auditing and teaching some of their societies etc how to account for themselves properly, full exposure to financial reporting and publishing accounts. Basically I would be the Financial Controllers no2.

I have to take a hit in salary but I think I might look back and someday think this was the decision that made me who I am. Has anyone ever done anything similar?

I think there is no harm taking a hit to salary in your case.
Sounds like you have a good plan and have pretty good promises from the new company.
The only thing I'd be wary of is the risk the companies promises falling through ? Have you any means to judge is that likely or not ?
    I'm a bit of a worrier though :)

I've only moved jobs a few times , but my original "philosophy" was always to take the more challanging/scary option.
It wouldn't be as automatic a decision now , but I still try and do it.

I decided to take it on. I got the company to incorporate the promise into the contract which they were happy to do! :)
