    Hi all,

I have got good prices for flights to Barcelona at the start of August. Thing is I don't fancy spending an entire week in the city. I'd like to spend the first 4 days in a nice relaxing town/resort then finish with 3 days in Barcelona.

I was in Valencia last summer and loved it, but it is much more relaxed than Barcelona. I don't mind hiring a car or that so if anyone can recommend some nice places it would be great

I think Salou is about an hour away on the train, might be worth a look.

Thanks for your reply but I've heard that Salou isn't great for couples. I imagine at this time of year it will be full of families and groups of young people boozing and that's not really what we're looking for. We would like somewhere a bit more chilled out and relaxing, preferably by the sea but not essential. There are loads of small towns and resorts along the Costa Brava and it's so difficult to decide between them all

We got a bus from Barcelona nord bus station to a little resort called Tossa De Mar . It would suit couples if you were not looking for night clubs , there are lots of restaurants and bars but no all night places. It had a very Spanish feel to it . We also went to Sitges which is much nearer to barcelona about 35 mins on the train. This has nice beach but is a much busier resort so it depends on what you are looking for.
Also prices of food and drink was a bit cheaper in Tossa De Mar than Sitges

Blanes, which is slightly closer to Barcelona than Tossa, is another pleasant spot. Me'n'FunkyMa have sayed in it a few times. Have a look at it on Google Street View.
The commuter train line runs up to Blanes, and so it's easy to take the train from the airport, change platform at Sants, and then up to Blanes. It takes about two hours.
By car, you head for the Ronda Littoral, and then the C31/C32 up as far as Blanes. :)
