# of owners & asking price

Does the # of previous owners significantly affect the value of a car?
E.g. if a car is advertised as having had only 1 owner but after going through the documents the car has actually had 2 previous owners would this be grounds enough to negotiate a discount from the asking price when haggling a deal? I'm looking to buy a car that's advertised as £8kGBP down to £7.5GBP by any means possible.

Same with regards to advertised spec; e.g. if the car is advertised as having bluetooth but in fact it doesn't would this be grounds enough to expect to be able to get a lower sale price? Thanks.

    Lower spec certainly would.

Number of owners depends on the car. The dealer might been registered as an owner at some point so it might actually only be one owner. Either way I don't see 1 or 2 owners making a difference. If it was 1 or several owners then maybe!

Thanks, I confirmed that it is 2 owners. Owner 1: leasing company (most likely used by only 1 driver but no way of confirming this 100%). Owner 2: private individual.

To be honest I have always been scared by a lot of owners, especially on a youngish car.

Would make me think "why are people so inclined to keep selling this car?", and set alarm bells ringing.

Could easily have been a rental company. Dozens of drivers, all thrashing it :(

Thanks. I phoned the 1st owner (car leasing management company) & while they couldn't provide the name of the company who it was leased to they were able to confirm that it appeared to be registered on their books with an individual & a company type that would tend not to have multiple drivers. But obviously there's no confirmation to the contrary either.

It has a reasonably good service history (3 stamps from new; each about 15 to 20 thousand miles between them & verified with the garages that carried them out). Hopefully a Comprehensive AA inspection will pick up any signs of misuse & poor servicing etc.

Did the original leasee buy it out from the leasing co? Could be 2 owners and 1 driver??

Owner 1: Leasing company. Then sold to garage who sold it to owner 2.
    Owner 2: private individual
So 2 owners & at least 2 drivers.
