Those look like some grand boots for a tree hugger :pac:

Was just thinking the other day, I have my 'vegetarian shoes' doc martin style boots more than a year and a half now and they still look very new :)

Grand boots indeed, for a tree hugger (that's about to chop a tree down).

    :D:D:D:D

I'm an arborist. I climb and dismantle/fell dangerous trees, sometimes directly above people's homes. :D:D:DPart of my remit as I see it is to retain trees in the landscape so i will not fell a tree unnecessarily and take the time to persuade the owner to retain the tree. I started this by going to college to learn about trees because of a love I had for trees previously. :D:D:DSo I would call myself an informed tree hugger who is realistic. :D:D:D

It was a terrible joke sorry :P

It's nice to see someone from farming and forestry over here. Do you ever do those timbersports type competitions, I saw those at the national ploughing championships before, was pretty cool :o

Whatever kind of stuff is in my boots, it doesn't seem to crease as easily as leather does, sometimes you do get what you pay for. I have a belt from the same stuff too and again have it a few years now and it's perfect.

not at all I should have put a smile in there, and will do now. I am not at all sensitive but did not want to go into a big lecture about my philosophy. Someone has to mind the trees and sometimes it is necessary to put them down too. :D

No I wouldn't be up to timbersports, a bit old for that even when I started, I can do it but slowly :-) but I do watch it. I really like watching the swamp man on tv as he is as mad as a hatter. It is very demanding work but I love it.

I have got my shoes from the veg shop in brighton over the years and they are more a walking boot, but yes I get the impression that they last longer. The reason I am delighted about the above chainsaw boots is that i did not have a choice as I am required to wear chainsaw proof boots with my work and I never had a choice until now, and I am so delighted and relieved, that i find it hard to express here. ;)

No it's interesting, not something I'd know much about. I know a new word now, arborist :) Sounds a bit like the french word for tree

they say it has an Aquastop water resistant lining, which is a start. My old boots Aquafell claimed to be water proof but my feet would disagree. :D I think a good application of a combination of black vegi polish and Gwax (I heat the mix in a can top over a candle for easier spreading) will do the job. If that dosn't work then I will find another way.

Water resistant will never be water proof though, aint got time to be doing the macgyver making boots that should be waterproof by manufacturer waterproof.
Do you know what is the weight of them, they are very shy in the spec. why do you have to email for the spec i wonder?

don't know but I did, so wait and see. they boots are rated to EU 17249:2004/A1 standard so thats a good start. You would have to polish leather boots to ensure their waterproofing/resistance too, not quiet what I would call macgyver, but that just sounds lazy to me not doing that. :p

what makes you say that these boots are not waterproof?

They are made of Lorica uppers that has been used incycling for years and iss well know for being waterproof and breathable. and the Aquastop water resistant lining is a standard in all treeme boots?

Water Resistant nubuck leather with 'Aquastop' membrane lining means these chainsaw boots are waterPROOF and 'breathable'!

What makes me say it is water resistant is not water proof. You cannot make a race horse out of a donkey.

well that clears that up then  I have emailed the company to get the details.

I got an immediate reply from the company:

    Dear Oldtree

    Many thanks for your enquiry.

The boots will be as water resistant as equivalent leather boots and can be re-proofed if desired by any suitable proofer. We have always recommended Nikwax water proofing wax as it is water based and has not been tested on animals.

You will see by the reviews for our chainsaw boot they have been very well received and are, we believe, the only Vegan chainsaw boots available.

    Hope that helps.

    Best wishes
    ................

    I redacted name here

That seems reasonable imo. I waxed my existing boots daily and due to the scratching and scraping while climbing the waterproofing seldom lasted more than a day, which is why I did it daily. I think the factory "waterproofing" dosn't last that long imo.

these are the ones I have:
