Odometer Reading????

    Hi Folks,

Got a second hand Peugoet 206 last year. 55,000 miles on the clock. Shortly after I got the car the bulb being the odometer 'blew', so the odometer display was blank. Got the bulb replaced, but the reading on the odometer is now 118,000 :-O !!!! I have only done a few thousand miles in the car, so I am wondering how the figure is so high/different.

The guy in the garage says the clocks were replaced at some point in the life of the car, so the current reading may not be correct. He also mentioned getting a reading off the Bsi/Psi?? Anyone know what this is? or how to get a correct mileage reading?

I've seen some cars in the past ( which had previously been clocked ) revert to their original mileage after a repair or the battery being disconnected and reconnected. Doesn't happen in all cars but I've seen it happen.

The dealer could be right, If the clocks were replaced with a second hand set, which were subsequently adjusted to the mileage of the car, the same situation as above could've happened. Any main dealer should be able to get the true mileage as almost every car with a digital speedo stores the mileage in two or three locations which the clockers dont or cant change.

Thanks for the reply Darragh. I hope the lower mileage is the correct one, but I'm not optimistic :-/.

The mileage is constantly synced between the clocks and BSI (the body computer). If you replace the clocks with a higher mileage set, the BSI is overwritten with the higher mileage. If you replace the clocks with a lower mileage set, the clocks are overwritten with the higher mileage. In this way, it's difficult to clock a multiplexed PSA car unless you swap out the BSI (with it's paired ECU and keyset) and clocks. As far as I remember, the BSI's mileage is not shown in the diag software. But it would match the clock's mileage, as they are synced.

There is no bulb behind the odometer, it's an LCD display with an LED backlight. Even with the LED blown, the mileage would be visible in daylight. Is it possible whomever "replaced the bulb" swapped in a different speedo?

EDIT: It seems contrary to the entire PSA lineup, the 206 does use an incandescent bulb behind the LCD display. Even with the bulb blown however, the LCD itself would still be visible in daylight.
