DONEGAL North East Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh has been promoted as a Junior Minister. Deputy McHugh (43) is the new Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs and the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources with Special Responsibility for Gaeltacht Affairs and Natural Resources.

With Dinny McGinley Retiring at next election is this a last throw of the Dice by Fine Gael to secure One seat in Donegal

... and he's not fluent in Irish.

Only in this country could a man who isn't a fluent Irish speaker be appointed to be the new Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs.

Alright, it'd be like promoting someone to this position who cannot speak French.

Between the Garth Brookes mess and this promotion it's no wonder there's Irish jokes.

In fairness, most ministers aren't qualified to run their departments by that basis....the minister for Finance & the Taoiseach are both teachers.
Also, he's not the minister for the gaeltacht, he's the minister for arts, heritage and gaeltacht affairs...
That man might never have heard of joyce or wilde before, but he probably wouldn't be brought up on it.
