Transfer maxillofacial surgery from UK to Ireland?

I was accepted (during my time in the UK) by the NHS as needing treatment for my overbite (significant) which required braces and will require maxillofacial surgery to break the jaws etc.

This has been paid for uptil now by the NHS.

I'm back in Ireland and starting employment very soon, but in the meantime have acquired a medical card.

Is it possible to transfer my treatment as I will be unable to travel back and forth to the UK because of my job hours. Will the tab be picked up here, or will I need to go private.

If private, are there any rebates available as I'm a few years into treatment, and I'm not rolling in cash.

Does anyone know any particularly high skilled surgeons they would recommend as this isn't a straightforward case.

    Thanks

The HSE will not pick up the tab. In order to receive this type of treatment starting afresh here, you would have to be under 16, assessed by a HSE dentist, accepted on to the ortho waiting list, wait your turn to be called, get referral to max-fax surgeon etc, and that's assuming you pass the creteria necessary to begin the process. Unfortunately this is a "use it or lose it" situation. Have you considered trying to get a referral from English hospital to an NHS hospital in the North?

Okay, I'm in my 20's so I'm guessing that's out!

Referral to the North however is fantastic idea, thank you. I'll get on the phone to them tomorrow to see if I can arrange something.
