OK I know these Q's get asked all the time but ..I am about to pull the mouse trigger on my first real road bike.

So any type of group set system and how it functions will be new to me.

My bike of choice is the Canyon Roadlite Al 7.0 now I need to stop my state of constant "Procrastination" an pick the bloody version I want.

One version is full Shimano 11-speed Ultegra ( frame in stealthy black)
    @€;1,299
    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3193
    or
Second one is Full Campagnolo Athena black 11 speed (frame Movistar Team )
    @€;1,199
    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3333

I hope that what ever group set I go for will last a good few years ,and maybe transfer across to a better CF frame once my bike handling skills and fitness improve.

Can you guys please help me with any pros & cons :o

You're effectively asking which is better, Shimano or Campag, which causes an outpouring of differing opinion ad nauseam. Let me summarise manys a discussion on it, Shimano is better.

    That will be all.

I know this is an "ad nauseam" topic ...:D

My main concern is I hope to see this purchase as long term venture.

I am pulled in by the sexy Italian stuff

But do I need to worry about "Bottom Bracket" etc compatibility issue with the Campagnolo Athena groupset , should I wish to upgrade the frame to carbon in the future etc.

    all feedback is welcome.

The Athena is both lighter and better looking (in my opinion) so i'd be opting for that.

Bottom bracket wouldn't be a problem as long as you don't change to Italian threading on your next frame. Although new Italian cups can be bought for about €20/€30. They do nice carbon versions of their chainsets too which are super light/expensive.

One thing I really like about Campagnolo Shifters is that they can be taken apart and repaired fairly easily so you don't need a new shifter if there's a problem. You can just pick up the part either second hand or from Campagnolo directly. Repaired one quite recently for free and was quite straight forward using youtube videos.

Regardless of what anyone says both are equally good from a functionality point of view so I'd go with the one that you think is more comfortable/looks better.

Running campag veloce myself and would go for campag again with the following provisos.

    - Worth taking a bike with campag and shimano for a spin to see which shifting style you prefer.
    - You can have lower gearing options on shimano. If you look at the default 105 based canyon ALs they ship with an 11/32 cassette as standard which will make steep hills for those out of shape and carrying a bit of weight much easier. AFIAK camp 11 speed have 12/29 as lowest option, and 12/30 for 10 speed. (Edit: for the configurations given, the shimano is 11/28 and the campag 12/29, I'd prefer the latter though both are fine for most people).
    - The wheel hubs are different, and more sales / end of line specials for mid-range and lower end wheels etc... tend to be shimano than campag.
    - Shimano spares for cassettes / chain rings tend to be cheaper than campag.

Personally, I love the look of that Movistar Team frame, way more than black.

The Italian dressed one is looking like the one to go with .

Ok then any feedback on the Canyon Delivery process ?

I know it will take a good few weeks this time of the year with the TDF on etc.

But once it is being shipped by UPS do they contact you with a delivery time slot , so I can plan a day off work etc.

A mate of mine got his Canyon last week.
He was waiting 20 weeks for it.
However, he says, it was worth the wait, and he knew from the get go, that he would be waiting so long.

5 months for a bike... hmm, that seems a little excessive to me. Reason for that length of delay?

They only have the one factory? They are not what I would call popular bikes either. I dont see that many around.

I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

If they're not that popular surely they would be ready and waiting for the orders to come and be able to get the bikes out a bit faster?
Would it be more that they are getting a lot more popular recently and they can't handle demand, or they are waiting for containers of frames from the far east?
How long does it take to assemble a bike?

Factory does look quite small alright. I would also be willing to wait for my bike but I just think that 5 months is a little on the high side. If they are getting more and more popular, expand and get more staff.

A growing company, trying to secure more sales does not want to be known for having a 4-5 month waiting time. Most people wont wait that long.

I think I did see an update about a new Factory coming online very soon ...

I may just wait for the bike I want to show up in their Express Bikes "In Stock" function.

    Very nice, congrats!

EDIT - How did you choose between the two groupsets? I cant see the option on the website.
